Hunting as on a horse after a fox, deer or pig?

hunting as in India, on an elephant after tiger?

Hunting as in Army, after Slaxjaw?

Funny, i had a conversation with my Lawyer about Animals on the Island the other day..

He was insistent that there wasn't barely any Game left & that the Isaan people had hunted lots of the species to extinction, where the Island's concerned anyway..

i just want to shoot stuff any blow shit up.

fox and deer probably hard to find over here.

Pigs seem to easy though i can eat them.

Not sure what a slax jaw is

Duck and rabbit i could go for but i want a fire arm. i need to hunt with a gun. not an air gun a really fire arm.

i think it is harder hunting with firearms because they make so much noise so u have to take reall time over each shot.

Urban Dictionary: slackjaw

North American term for an extemely ignorant, possible inbred person. Usually of rural heritage. see also: hick, mouthbreather, yokel

are u saying i should hunt ignorant, possible inbred people. if so what guns and what bait do i use

<deleted>! You want to 'go hunting' on Samui? Where and for what? 'Or anywhere in Thailand'? Well why not try one of the National Parks where encroachment is already decimating what fauna there is left! What the hel_l's the matter with people like you? Just go to bloody Lotus or Big C  Like everyone else!

I was going to suggest you try posting on the cute bunny rabbits forum but it seems they've found you already.

Anyone for primeval instincts? The fun of the chase?

Environmental bull as usual.....

actually, the decimation of certain species is a fact, not environmental bull.

An example: the prevalence of the coconut beetle that decimated the coconut trees on Samui and Phangan is directly tied to the over hunting of their main predator, squirrels.

Or is the entire idea of an ecosystem environmental bull as well?

i knew this would make some ignorant people angry. i take it that everyone that has a problem with hunting is vegaterian.

Anyway i not have a problem with it.

So back to the topic. where can u shoot big fluffy bunny rabbit for fun.

infact for any envoriment green person that has a problem or posts something negative about my thirst for blood then another fluffy bunny rabbit gets it.

so let me get this right. it is ok to eat something that a big corperation has killed in tescos but it is not alright to go out and catch it yourself.

Kaeng Krachan: The Kingdom's largest national park - Part One Hidden natural beauty in Southwest Thailand

48__500x340_rainbow-in-kaeng-krachan.jpg

Rainbow over the Phetchaburi watershed

One of the country's most astonishing natural wonders is snuggled along the border with Burma in the southwest provinces of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Kirikan. This magnificent forest is part of the great rugged Tenasserim Range running from the province of Tak in the north, to Phang Nga in the south. It has evolved over millions of years into a spectacular wilderness showcasing an amazing array of wild flora and fauna.

82__500x340_leopard-on-trail.jpg

Kaeng Krachan is the largest national park in the nation covering a vast area of 2,915 square kilometres of mostly dense mountainous with moist-evergreen, dry-evergreen and mixed deciduous forests. The highest peak is on the border at over 1,500 meters and the second is Phaneon Thung Mountain at 1,207 meters. The park is one of the richest biospheres on the planet with Sundaic and Indochinese species intermingled and still surviving in the interior.

69__500x340_great-hornbill.jpg

A great hornbill lifting off a fruit tree

The Phetchaburi and Pranburi Rivers are two very important watersheds that flow through the protected area to the lowlands. There are more than 70 species of fish plus the animals feeding on them including the Siamese crocodile, fishing cat, buffy fish-owl, lesser fish-eagle and smooth-coated otter all found here in fair numbers except for the crocodile. So far, only one individual has been recorded. However, it is a harmonious ecosystem filled with wild animals and real-life stories of nature's remarkable creatures living here for millennia.

42__500x340_bull-elephant.jpg

In some areas tigers, leopards, elephants, gaur, tapir and many other superlative creatures thrive. Other carnivores include the clouded leopard, marbled cat, Asian wild dog, Asiatic jackal, sun bear, black bear and a host of smaller civets, badger, mongoose and banded linsang. Prey species comprise of sambar, both species of muntjac (the rare Fea's and the more common barking deer), mouse deer, serow, wild pig, stump-tailed macaque, gibbon, langur and porcupine to mention just a few. There are over 400 bird species recorded plus a multitude of reptiles and amphibians, thousands of insect and plant species.

44__500x340_gaur-herd.jpg

Gaur camera-trapped at the same mineral deposit

Unfortunately, Kaeng Krachan is under serious threat from people inside and outside the park, who continue to poach the flora and fauna, and encroach on the forest. There are several Karen and Karang villages situated in the northeast section of the park along the Phetchaburi River. With easy access, these people continue to enter the interior in search of food and perpetrate other harmful activities. Also, human trafficking from Burma has been documented using the park's waterways. Over the long run, these ethnic people with their unrestricted population growth will overcome many new areas in search of a livelihood.

87__500x340_gaur-spooked.jpg

Gaur herd spooked by camera-trap at another mineral deposit in the interior

Another very damaging aspect is excessive visitation by tourists who basically tend to destroy natural habitat through sheer numbers, especially during holidays and long-weekends. Another serious problem is over-development and expansion of the previous facilities by the park authorities to increase visitors, hence more money into the coffers. This increase in tourism has had a negative effect on the protected area. There seems to be no concept of carry capacity as is practiced at national parks in the west.

370__500x340_tiger-abstract-2-w.jpg

Indochinese tiger abstract in Kaeng Krachan

The Phechaburi watershed area also needs special zoning to keep the hordes of people out who leave trash and other unwanted things behind. Chopping trees down and marking them permanently with machetes is another serious problem. I once saw a middle-class man and his six member family hiking down to the famous nine-tiered Thor Thip waterfall all carrying walking staffs cut from young trees at the top near the car park.

86__500x340_buffy-fish-owl.jpg

Buffy fish-owl landing by the Phetchaburi River

I have also seen and camera-trapped hunting groups sneaking into the park during the rainy and dry season with local Karen porters as guides. The only thing these people do right is pay the small fee at the park entrance. The chief and most of the staff stay down in the park headquarters hardly ever policing this place.

403__500x340_asian-tapir-2-in-kaeng-krachan-w.jpg

Asian tapir posing in the Phetchaburi River

Kaeng Krachan is probably the second best area for tigers and leopards in the Kingdom. It is one of my favourite wilderness areas after more than 15 years of experience photographing wildlife here, and I have watched it slide slowly downhill. Poor management and low budgets have plagued this place for years. It is hoped the Thai government will improve patrolling and enforcement, and preserve this magnificent place before it is too late. Quick and decisive steps need to be taken now to insure its survival for present and future generations to enjoy.

Part Two of this thread will focus on the rare and endangered species found in Kaeng Krachan.

Oh sorry, I just assumed when you quoted someone discussing the decimation of species due to over hunting environmental bull that thats what you were referring to. My bad, nobody could really be that ignorant I suppose. Apologies for the misunderstanding then. :)

I think 'some' variants of a particular species should be wiped out.

by righting that u have taken an innocent bunny's life. i warned u. now u r killing inncent animal because of your anger.

by the way u posted some lovely animals in that national park post. they will make very good trophies. only joking though i don't expect u to have sense of humer. Look the jist is that we kill animals who cares where it be for fun or for living. i justify what i do by eating my pray i feel at one with nature and when i die my body willl be left for the animals to eat. it all balances out.

There's wild boar on Koh Phangan. Pulled into Haad Yuan (East coast) one day when there used to be a small resort there and they were BBQing a boar they'd shot. As for Samui it's fun to go to the lady Thai boxing on Saturday nights and shoot spitballs thru a straw at the backs of necks of ignorant tourists that block your view.. Wasn't me.

Hunting "The ignorant and inbred" is not easy; a big challenge;

there is one out there who might be tempted by "loads 'a money" , you'd need to wear a "red shirt" to get close and I recommend a  rocket propelled grenade , laser directed, to do the job! :whistling:

I don't see where on this thread anyone is advocating hunting of endangered species. By all means highlight the issue but that's not what the OP was asking.

Decimation ? That's bull ! Come down our place where you'll see a dozen squirrels leaping throgh the trees every day. Dunno about Isan folk but the Samui locals (youths) have tried shooting them down with slingshots until we ran them off.

You can't be that ignorant. I'm baffled.

there is a pet shop on the ring road, buy yourself a little bunny rabbit and feed it up over a few months.

then take it up a hillside somwhere near your house release it and boot it up the aXXe, that'll make it run faster, then go hunting it, bit of advise here, do not use a shotgun cos it'll end up full of lead pellets, use a nice 22 rifle and try a head shot, give me a call when rabbit stew is ready, hhmmmm can taste it now

Here we go again! Another holier than thou newbie that doesn't remember to switch on his or their sense of humour whilst logging onto TV, especially the Samui forum. You obviously haven't taken any time at all to read this forum before preaching to us all so I will try to explain things very slowly for you. :annoyed:

There are a group of us here who enjoy a little banter between ourselves. Itmakes the days go a little happier ;) Like myself posting about BBQ'ing baby dolphin and dropping the temp of the aircon whilst Greenpeace was here. Whilst most people on this forum understand a little humour it always amazes me the amount that do not. :o

Also big C may have a boat in his avatar but the other poster is SCREAMING EAGLE not SEA EAGLE and you only have to look at the spelling of Big C to see that the two could never be the same person.

Big C. Maybe we could organise a night at the shooting range where we can blast the hel_l out of some targets ? Maybe get the whole committee together and hold a defence exercise ? I would be up for a bit of that.

I once took out a cow with a 66mm anti tank round whilst on an exercise in wales. Not a pretty sight I can tell you and not a lot left to BBQ :D
