I read on another forum section that one can purchase an Iphone 4 on Koh Samui, but no one has yet provided me with contact details of where... Anyone any idea who sells these?

Tesco lotus in chaweng sells them , very expensive those . And unless you plan to use the phone outside of thailand , pretty useless to have one here ( as no 3g in thailand )

Well, I always proclaimed to be one of the last persons ever to own an iphone, as I have a 700bt phone that can make calls as good as an iphone and a laptop that can do emailing, internet and a lot of other things a lot better than an Iphone. But... I need to make a prototype of a new cutting edge video camera feauture and the Iphone 4 is the only "camera" that has the hardware specs I require and of which I can access and modify the controlling software. You can't interface with other video cameras or rewrite its software.

I read that there is/was an authorised Apple reseller on the island, that sells them cheap. I can't find it though. The only reseller I know, was the now non-existant MacSamui. Anyone any other idea apart rom Tesco?

The only official Apple / Mac reseller I know of on the island is Banana IT.... The larger of the two stores on Tesco, side or road in Chawang... towards Maenam.... (maybe 100 to 200 meters) they would probably have the better selection, than the B IT Lamai branch (in Tesco Mall).

Tried BananaIT in Chaweng and they don't have them in stock. They say two weeks wait.

I am not interested in the phone or any apps. I need to develop a prototype of an image stabilization technique, which produces perfectly still images and smooth panning. Unlike the shaky videos being shot now with phone cameras and it would be even better than professional video cameras. The Iphone 4 has a gyroscope, with which I could make this patented technology work and then use it as a prototype to show the effect to camera manufactuers. I might even make a little money on selling the app. Unless the Samsung has a gyroscope and accelerometer built in, I will be 'condemned' to an Iphone 4.

AIS shop in Tesco-Lotus Chaweng has the iPhone 4 in stock. But they don't make it easy to get one...

I walk in at around 1pm to enquire about the phone. They have just received a shipment and have them in stock. I can change my prepaid 12call to a post paid AIS subscription and keep my number. I will have to come back with copies of passport and workpermit. At 3.30pm I return with necessary documents. I ask what can I do with the extisting balance and days of my pre-paid. Advice is to transfer it to someone. So I transfer the entire amount and all days to my girlfriends account. As you can only transfer 100 Baht maximum at a time and it takes quite some time to go through all the steps, it takes me over an hour!! to do the complete transfer. Happily as I am with 2.65 Baht and 1 days left on 12call I inform the AIS staff that i am ready to change to postpaid AIS package with the Iphone.

And that is when the staff informs me that they are having problems with their computer system (for the past 2 days) and cannot create new subscriptions or sell me an iPhone... . Funny how they couldn't inform me of that before, or during the 70 minutes sitting in their shop transferring my balance and validity days. Left my number, so they can call me when their system is online again. Haven't heard anything yet....

Thank you Rooo for the AIS contact details! I picked up my iPhone this morning at the AIS shop in Tesco-Lotus Chaweng. Their system is still slow, so I had a cappuccino while they set it all up. Just returned home as a happy customer, just to be amused again by a phonecall from AIS; If I can drop by again in the shop to sign the contracts and papers. They forgot...

ps. oh, but while waiting the past two days, AIS did give me free 100 Baht and 30 days validity on my prepaid account, for the inconvenience, since I was left with only 1 day and 2 Baht on my account.
