Police Set for People's Alliance Rally

The national police office has warned the People's Alliance for Democracy not to violate the law while rallying against the House's consideration of the minutes of the Thai Cambodian joint border committee.

Royal Thai Police spokesman Police Major General Prawut Thawornsiri said the Metropolitan Police commissioner will decide how many police officers will be in charge of handling tomorrow's rally by the People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD.

The PAD and yellow shirt supporters plan to rally outside the Parliament House against the planned deliberation of the minutes of the three recent meetings of the Thai Cambodian Joint Border Committee.

Prawut said the Metropolitan Police Division 1 commander will be overseeing security for the rally.

He believes tomorrow's gathering will not spiral out of control but warned demonstrators against blocking access to roads or the use of loudspeakers.

He said the yellow shirt people could face the same legal action as the red shirt group has if they broke the law.

The spokesman expected the PAD to end its gathering when the House meeting adjourns.

Prawut also said the city police will ask Cambodia to help locate the whereabouts of red shirt leader Arisman Pongruengrong.

Arisman remains at large after the crackdown on the violent red-shirt protests in May and is believed to have taken refuge in Cambodia.
