Tourist Visa Extension

Featured Replies

If there are folks needing to extend a 60-day standard tourist visa, and you have the option of doing in up country vs. Bangkok, it just is no contest at the moment ... do it up country.

I extended mine in Udon and it just could not have been easier. I had no forms, no pictures, nothing. For now Thai Immigration has a temporary office right at the Udon airport. I dropped in Tuesday morning right after the recent Holiday expecting a long line. There was not only no line but there were fewer customers (2 of us) than immigation officials (3).

They helped me fill out the form, took a picture with a digital camera, and made whatever copies they needed. The only charge was the standard 1900 Baht fee for the 30-day extension. I doubt if I was there for 30 minutes total including the toilet visit. It may be different in a few months once their new office opens in town but what a breeze for now.

Actually it is quite easy anywhere and in fact you did fill in a form according to your second paragraph.

For the pedantically inclined:

I had no form with me when I popped into Thai immigration. They produced the form and helped me fill it out. So yes there is a form.

For the very pedantic:

They held the pen.

my friend came here for a holiday and they gave him only one month visa. (UK pp) He wants to stay 3 months .

So will immigration give him another 2 months OK?

No, apparently he did not have a visa, he made a "Visa Exempt" entry. He can make another entry by land and receive a 15 day stay, enter by air and receive another 30 day stay, or go to a consulate outside Thailand and apply for a Tourist Visa, that would give a stay of 60 days and could be extended another 30 days for 1900 Baht.

No. 7 days if he is lucky.

He needs a Tourist Visa from a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country.
