webfact
Danish Businessman Arrested in Thailand The Danish national Carsten August, who runs a small business in the northern part of Jutland in Denmark, was recently arrested in Suvarnabhumi International Airport when he tried to return to Denmark. The story became public when Carsten August stepfather called nyhederne.tv2.dk. "When tried to travel back to Denmark the other day, he was arrested by five plainclothes officers who took his money and passport," says Jens Meyer Olsen. According to the stepfather the arrest has its roots in a conflict with a former Thai girlfriend and business partner. The stepfather tells the Danish news site that the Thai women accuse her former boyfriend for making some private photos public on the Internet. According to local authorities the offense can trigger up to five years imprisonment. Carsten August denies the accusation. After his arrest the Danes local lawyer succeeded to get him out of jail, although he remains detained. He should be in court on Monday. Carsten August stepfather told nyhederne.tv2.dk. that his stepson and the Thai women started a business together in a three-storey building with cafe, hairdressing and Thai massage. I all ended up in a mess, and the ex-girlfriend sued Carsten August for a large amount of money. Still according to the stepfather Jens Meyer Olsen, his stepson’s lawyer in Thailand, the Thai women will carry on demanding more and more money. cup-O-coffee
So, another way to get a foot in the doorway of extorting foreigners? Beware if you have posted pictures of a Thai woman from your past, and she knows about it. Or, better yet, beware of a Thai woman who has it in for you, and posts her own pictures, and points a finger at you. Thais only need a reason; any reason. A trail of evidence is unnecessary, right? She is demanding more money as more police enter the picture (no pun intended) and make promises to her for a fee; this from personal experience of witnessing it being done to a foreign acquaintance caught in the middle. BIB are vultures that fight over carrion. As a matter of digression, did this ex-girlfriend notify the police from her local 7/11? If so, maybe this idea will get some results! arefbhat
It still seems to be an allegation of thai girlfriend. This will need a lot of work by cyber forensic experts before any one can prove who posted the pictures (if any). zorro1
well lets assume more than likely the pic would have been taken in their bedroom. In their house. It will be on his laptop. the 3 will match, kind of overwhelming circumstantial evidence? maybe Im wrong but he will have a hard time explaining why the same pic is on his laptop. Considering the messy split and the 10 mill bht he lost (guess) he is a man scorned. makes totall sense to me on a speculative basis, many posting here may have done the same . he loses $$$$$ she loses face. he is about to lose a lot more $$$$$
brahmburgers
I'd love to know how the police have proof that it was him who actually posted the photos, there case sounds about as watertight as a tea bag could be a site that the Dane manages. In similar news, I know a farang (former friend) who does awful things when he feels jilted by a Thai g.f. I could go on and on with sordid details, but the gist is that many people, regardless of whether farang or Thai, are capable of underhanded retribution. thaikahuna
Where to start ?? Proving where they were posted from can not be easy and if determined, proving whose fingers were on the computer will be another matter. Methinks its sour grapes for a man who invested in a business that went tits up and she wants more money to make the same mistake again.... jcbangkok
Did they leave out the part about this women having a relative in the police dept. or is it normal to take a person's money for such a crime? and .. Still according to the stepfather Jens Meyer Olsen, his stepson’s lawyer in Thailand, the Thai women will carry on demanding more and more money. Next they will feel the need to report on quotes from people who tell us the sun will rise tomorrow. Edited November 6, 2010 by jcbangkok

Proving where they were posted from can not be easy and if determined, proving whose fingers were on the computer will be another matter. Methinks its sour grapes for a man who invested in a business that went tits up and she wants more money to make the same mistake again.... Given the lack of modernizing so many Thai laws ... I have to wonder what law was actually violated to begin with. There are surely pornography related laws but I am not sure I read anywhere that these were porno images and certainly they would need to prove they were uploaded by him in Thailand ... though this would not be difficult in terms of a circumstantial case since the IP would likely have been logged ... then again, if it was a non-Thai website, good luck in terms of Thailand getting this info. And if these so called "private' photos were of a pornographic nature, wouldn't the girlfriend also be in violation of the law, assuming she knew she was being photo'd? The big question now will be what will happen now that the story has been made public. On the one side you have losing face but on the other you have a possible international incident that at the very least can hurt tourism from this country. You said obtaining. I can think of extorting or maybe, a full Cashectomy (total removal of cash) with the help and good offices of the BIB and the Thai Media. Remember the axiom: Thai good, Farang bad.

Sydebolle
Déja Moo........ the strange feeling having heard this bullshit before. But until they amend the laws here to make non-Thais and Thais equal, then nothing changes. As this will not happen anytime soon, keep away from doing business in the Land of Smiles OR do it without any Thai partner. At the beginning the Non-Thai has the money and the Thai has the experience. Such business structures result in having the very same result all the time: the Non-Thai has the experience and the Thai has the money. Or am I missing something out here? richieudon
"When tried to travel back to Denmark the other day, he was arrested by five plainclothes officers who took his money and passport," OK, I can understand the passport but why do they have to steal his money? If farang ACCUSES a Thai of a crime is the Thai incarcerated until their innocence is proven or do they have their money taken away? It's plain extortion. If a Thai wants to take your money it seems it's really easy. They just have to share with the dtum ruatt....

asiawatcher
Money will solve all - another case of "he says she says". And the Police acted on it with no possible proof? I wish they would get on with doing real work instead of handling only the cases where they can scam money!
