Last night our house was under attack of termites. This really looked horrible - one of the doors was completely covered with their moving mass and lots more were coming... I read a lot about termites last night and I am very concerned about destruction of our house. Does anybody know what they can damage and how far can it go? Should we call pest control or smth else because i could not identify their type? What time do we have? I really love our house and I do not know what to do...

I will be grateful for any help.

Thanks in advance.

Were these the flying termites that come out after a rain and mass towards the light? We have never had a problem with these, its the ones that crawl up your wood that are the problem and you need to keep an eye out for what look like dirt trails in the wood. We even had termites come up through a small crack in our cement floor and eat half of my wardrobe :(

This is the reason most building are or should be built from Concrete/bricks/steel etc. here in Thailand.

The flying termites are trying to find a mate and start a new colony somewhere new,

This could be in your house if it is made of timber? If no timber, no problem.

As written already, look for dirt trails near timber. :)

Definitely get in the pest control people.

We have loads here on the area of KS where I live and we spray at least once a month.

The termites will eat any wood. They will then eat anything to get to wood - yes, they will eat through concrete (or find very fine cracks and enlarge them) to get to wood.

The big problem we have found with the concrete parts of the house is that the builders quite often leave bits of wooden form-work in the concrete after they leave. The termites eat this and move on up.

They can totally destroy a house if you are not careful. (The wooden parts that is.)

As I understand it, the flying ones are looking to nest to start another colony. (My manager says that they are tasty when fried! No wings of course.)

yes u must get pest control ASAP. i have them every month. i stopped using them for 1 year and it cost me allot in damages. i replaced my damaged wood with con wood. which is a mixture of cement and stuff but looks like wood.

now i used them every month. luckily most houses here are mostly built out of cocrete but most in the US are built out of wood. then Timberr

Yes, I found dirty roads they were going and the following day i cleaned complete veranda floor with some liquid for cleaning and do not notice anything for 2 days.

But still I am not sure if they are still here? What can I do more? May be i should make kinda trap with some wood just to see if they r gone?

Cleaning the trails does not stop the termites.

Spray all infected areas with Chaindrite (think that is how it's spelt). Mixing instructions are on the container.

You have to zap the little buugers or they will take over your house. :o
