Deputy PM to Hold Harsh Comments

The deputy prime minister pledges to heed the prime minister's advice for him to cease provocative comments against political groups.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban said he will no longer make any remark prone to draw ire from different political groups at the suggestion of the prime minister.

He asked the media to refrain from asking for his comments concerning other parties.

Suthep said his recent speech on the self-serving motives behind the moves of the People's Alliance for Democracy leader Sondhi Limthongkul and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was not aimed to incite anger but to raise awareness for the public's cooperation to keep the country in peace and order.

Suthep said the prime minister's advice on his remark was not from the latter's deference towards any particular group.

He also denied a rumored rift with the prime minister and expressed confidence upcoming political gatherings will not lead to a military coup or House dissolution.

He said the government's coordination with leaders of the demonstrators is under the responsibility of the premier's working team.

The red-shirt group will be protesting at the Democracy Monument on Rajdamnoen Avenue against what they claimed is the Constitution Court's double standard in its dismissal of the Democrat Party dissolution case on December 10.

The yellow-shirt group will be gathering the following day at Makawan Bridge, also on Rajdamnoen Avenue, against Parliament's deliberation of the minutes of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Border Committee meetings which they claim will lead to a loss of Thailand's territory.

For me, the story of the day.

PAD gets labelled as evil as the Reds, and then Suthep has to back down/apologise/promise not to say more. Someone put him back in line very very fast. Interesting to see how all these personalities, factions and groups are trying to manufacture the outcome they want. This means that it is approved that the PAD has a voice until the next election.

Suthep must have ruffled some very important feathers, or some people obviously support fighting over 4sq km of land(unlikely). Apparently the governments policies don't meet with someone's approval. Taxes for companies are slated to go down, taxes up a bit, so what is the issue? Why are they messing with a Democrat hard hitter like this?

The next election just got a hell of a lot harder for Abhisit.

quote " He (Abhisit) asked the media to refrain from asking for his (Suthep) comments concerning other political parties"........oh, this has to be one of the best !

It was actually Suthep that asked the media to refrain from asking etc. which in a way makes it funnier. I would like to have seen Sutheps face when making the remark, probably with a rueful grin on it and a shrug of the shoulders.

It could mean that for the first time in Thai political history, a pooyai will utter the words "NO COMMENT". Not sure how this would translate exactly into Thai, but "mai bpork" should cover it.
