Try the Android Development forum for your model at XDA developers. Not only can you probably take care of this at home, but you should be able to find a version of Froyo that's better than the stock version. Or just install the stock.

There is a way to boot into download or recovery mode on most Galaxy S phones. You hold the volume up and down buttons down and then hold the power at the same time. Then release the power button at a certain point in the cycle while still holding volume up and down.

See this for how to get to that mode. From there you can hopefully install the stock OS again.

General forums so you can look for your model:

If you have an I9000, try this thread:

which leads to this site for the Froyo version for Southeast Asia:

Also note, you will likely need to be on a Windows PC to use the software that'll put the stock OS back on.

Thanx for the reply.

i have the phone tp Pc screen or black screen of death, read the article and they suggested to go to a Samsung Service center for recovery.

Do you think there is some smart people who maybe can fix this without going to samsung,i reckon i will be without a phone for a long time.

Had a similar problem with a Nokia 5800 before, cost me 800 bath in the basement of Big c in Phuket for new software.

I also heard that Froyo is working better without all the extras from Samsung.

I have a Captivate, so not the same model, but I've had that screen before while trying different ROMs. It is not always fatal, particularly if it wasn't something spontaneous, but due to a failed OS install. There are several old threads where people thought they were beyond fixing, but then people figured out how to recover and I haven't seen someone claim a bricked device since.

I believe I did something along the lines of pull the battery, start up Odin, plug the cable in without the battery, hold volume up and down at the same time, put the battery in, and hit the power. It then came up in download mode.

There's more than one way to get into download mode and there are several threads on how to try at XDA developers. And I would say try several different ways different times. Look for the "how to unbrick" type threads. If it really is bricked then you may have to take it to an official repair place.

As for finding someone who can do it without getting to a Samsung Service center, I have no idea. It's a relatively new phone series. If you can't do it, then I wonder what software/hardware the cell phone repair places would have that could communicate with the phone to fix it. I've seen references to people building some kind of circuitry to fix a bricked phone around, so there could be places that have done that but you should find out how many times they've fixed a phone like that.

I'm currently running an I9000 based version of Froyo and have run ones for the Vibrant and the Captivate, all stripped of bloatware that the carriers added. In addition, there are lag fixes out that substantially improve performance. People pre-package these into the ROMs that you see available, so it's not a lot of work to install them.

There are lots of nice little features in Froyo, with some big ones like being able to view Flash animations on websites. It has things like arrows in the email apps to go to the older or newer emails, password or pin protection options in addition to the dots, slightly more options in contacts, etc.

Thanx for all advice on my Samsung Galaxy S

The Phone is now in the care of Samsung Service Center,2 weeks waiting time for my Phone.

My phone was dead completely so seemed that Samsung was the best option, but next time i will try to fix it myself.:0)

Did you use KIES (Samsung PC software) or OTA (over the air)? Seems like OTA is now an option but it seems risky. KIES seems much more reliable, safe.
