Many artesian wells and shallow wells around the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong are contaminated with chemicals at levels exceeding safe limits, Pollution Control Department (PCD) boss Supat Wangwongwattana said yesterday. He spoke after getting the results of waterquality tests.

Up to 30 of 39 artesian wells in the industrial estate and nearby areas had too much iron in the water. And at least 15 wells had excessive manganese. Up to seven of 47 shallow wells tested had too much arsenic.

But Supat said small aquatic animals such as mussels and horse crabs in areas near Map Ta Phut did not have dangerous contamination levels.

The water everywhere has iron and manganese here in LOS and Sth East Asia.

The 1st thing I do when installing water filtration systems here in LOS is deal with taking the iron and manganese out of the water!!:D
