webfact Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 MAP TA PHUT Water in Map Ta Phut wells contaminated: PCD By The Nation Many artesian wells and shallow wells around the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong are contaminated with chemicals at levels exceeding safe limits, Pollution Control Department (PCD) boss Supat Wangwongwattana said yesterday. He spoke after getting the results of waterquality tests. Up to 30 of 39 artesian wells in the industrial estate and nearby areas had too much iron in the water. And at least 15 wells had excessive manganese. Up to seven of 47 shallow wells tested had too much arsenic. But Supat said small aquatic animals such as mussels and horse crabs in areas near Map Ta Phut did not have dangerous contamination levels. -- The Nation 2010-12-15
dcutman Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Wow! This is unbelievable news. Contaminated water under a bunch of chemical factories. I cant believe it. All these companies are self regulated. I am sure they poured all kinds of money into the protection of the enviroment.
SamritT Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Good. This teach them a lesson. Never use water from well. It is illegal, as it cause land subsidence. Look at Bangkok.
