newdogowner
We need to leave Chiang Mai on Monday, and we already purchased bus tickets to Udon Thani. We want to bring our dog with us but the bus service said absolutely not. Today, when trying to find a nice neighbor to take care of our dog, someone told us that we may be able to ship the dog through Thai Post. Has anyone done this? Do we need to provide a dog crate, or do they have them in supply? We tried to call them directly, but their offices are closed until Monday morning. Any information would be greatly appreciated. newdogowner
Also, if anyone is travelling by car from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani relatively soon, would you be willing to take an extra passenger onboard? Our dog is barely 2kg and is very well behaved. She can even chip in for gas.

phaethon
It's getting a bit late now, but Thai Airways ship unaccompanied pets: http://www.prthaiair...g=10#fragment-2 They mention "authorized pet travel agent" but don't give any more information. If you had time I would suggest contacting the Thai Office in CM to see if they can put you in touch with any "authorized pet travel agents" Alternatively ask at your local pet hospital about pet boarding or transportation, they might be able to put the dog up for the whole of your trip or organize shipping by air or other means themselves. Chok dee. Also found, but obviously no personal knowledge http://northernthailand.com/cm/dogs/boarding.html Edited December 19, 2010 by phaethon

harrry
If yuou get reallydesperate you could consider travelling on one of the local inter city buses. Not comfortable but your dog will have the company of lots of chooks and a pig or two. It may be possible to travel by train too. If there are mail trains the dog may be able to be sent in the guards van in a suitable box. Check with the railways. newdogowner
Thanks everyone for your response, except for the "hilarious" stamp guy. No go with the Thai post.
CMExpat79
We transported our 2 shihtzus from Phuket to CM last year via thai airways for 600 bt each. You simply turn up on the day and they work with you finding a specific flights timings of arrival etc. It was a simple process and we were not on the same flight as we flew air asia who do not carry pets...or so we were told. If you need a pet carrier PM me as I have our two for sale which we used.
