I'm sick and tired of theese overpriced foriegn holiday meals in this city they act like foriegners are made of money with gold coins in thier pockets. In America I could find an amazing buffet with everything from crab to prime rib for under 15 dollars. Your lucky to find one in Bnagkok offering theese two items for under 40 dollars. I think it's time we foriegners who live in bangkok to start boycotting theese establishments and only go to reasonably priced places with great food. Never ever spend over 1000 baht again for a buffet it's ludacrous.

I have found a great buffet close to everyone in the heart of the city At Central World 7th Floor they have a reopening special through December 30th 2010 only 269++ baht for an excellent spread the name is Gustoso resturant it is an italian name but the food is international having Italian, American,Japanese, Chinese and Thai

They have it all there and it is very good including free drinks and desserts all included in the price For a full menu check out post number 18 on the other Christmas Dinner thread by Robbiecia

Try eating a good traditional Christmas Meal at Don's Cafe in Chiang Rai in a natural setting. Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef and all the trimmings along with pecan pie and ice cream for 299 Baht. Most Bangkok meals are over rated and over priced and people can do better.

Looks good, but most people reading this forum are looking for Christmas Dinner in Bangkok.

Actually went there yesterday, thought it was ok and probably worth the price paid, not sure that I would want to go for Christmas Dinner, which after all is the subject of the thread.

There was a couple of decent soups and a fairly basic salad bar, this was accompanied by some cold pizza. The carving station was fine but the meat was cold and then reheated on demand, you were only given one slice of meat per visit, though you could go back for another slice, there were sauces for the meat but no accompanying vegetables. Pasta was available to order.

There were a few Thai dishes and they were nice. There was strawberry or vanilla ice cream available, though the table containing the ice cream dishes was crawling with ants, as stated elsewhere there were some small dessert dishes and soft drinks were available on tap.

The restaurant had a nice feel to it and, apart from the table containing the ice cream dishes, was spotlessly clean. The staff were attentive and friendly.

Not a bad place for lunch and we will go again, though you do get what you pay for.

It's nice to hear that Justoso in CentralWorld has reopened....

However, it's really not a Christmas Dinner option, unless one wants to have a dinner that contains absolutely nothing relating to traditional Christmas fare...

Before the fire, they were offering their international buffet on weekends for 299b++, so the current promo is a bit of a discount...

The food there was kind of ho-hum, lackluster kind of way.... But it had been doing a decent business with Thais....and a lot of students looking for a relatively cheap meal.

Suggest the OP try Bully's near JW Marriott. I think it's 650 ++.

Even 650++ is a bit steep for the unemployed like me. Anyone know of anything cheaper - doesn't have to be a buffet necessarily? Are Bourbon Street or The Huntsman (or any of the Brit/Irish pubs) doing anything special?

I believe I recall that the Silver Dollar Bar in Washington Square is doing some kind of Christmas Dinner turkey plate (not buffet) for something around 300 baht or less... There was some mention of that in their most recent email to their list subscribers...but I didn't save it....

Londoner is also 1400 baht for Christmas Day.... a bit pricey for my tastes....

Re the Huntsman, a lot of times they and the other venues at the Landmark have non-advertised specials relating to use of various credit cards, Citi Cards, Platinum Cards, Amex cards, etc... So if one is interested in that venue, a call to inquire about 4 for 3 or 2 for 1, etc. wouldn't hurt...

And, Bourbon Street as usual is doing take away dinners as well as their inhouse buffet...

Their take away menu is listed below... including 4000 baht turkey dinner package for a family....

Hi Guys,

To the OP,Most of the place that you mentioned in the price of 1,000 bht up are tourist traps, plain and simple and it seems most of the regulars who frequent them keep the tourist mentality. I am from the states as well, and I laugh every time i see those prices. The sooner everyone avoids them, the sooner they will either lower the prices, or shut the doors and go away (but we know that will never happen).

And I am not cheap in any way, I just know the difference!

Example Don's in all places phuket is able to do it at 299 BHT, and we all know how pricey Phuket can bee.

So what is sooooo SPECIAL about these places that want 1000 bht up. I am sure most are members, so enlighten us with some feedback.

I did call the Landmark to enquire about the validity of their Club Landmark Card, which costs 4,900 Baht a year, the usual 50% discount is being reduced to 20% as the Christmas Buffet is "a special promotion", so I would think that the credit card promotions will have black out dates over the holidays.

By special promotion they seem to be offering their normal Sunday Roast Buffet, maybe substituting Turkey for Chicken, doubling the price from 700 Baht to 1400 Baht and calling it a Christmas Buffet.

The Landmark are not alone in hiking their prices over Christmas but they really know how to alienate their regulars who eat there throughout the year.

From what I read here, we're simply providing information, and choices, on the various Christmas Dinner options known to folks around these parts, with mentioned prices ranging from 300 to 650 to 850 to 1000 to 1400 baht... Everyone is free to decide where they want to go, and what they want to pay...

As for the pricing, most of the more expensive places, and we haven't even mentioned the REALLY expensive BKK Christmas Dinner places here as yet, are HOTEL restaurants... And I can pretty much assure, if someone was back in the U.S. and going to a hotel like the BKK Landmark, you'd be paying a bit more than $20 per person (600 baht) for Christmas dinner.

For the really budget minded, there's always the local Thai food cart and its 25 to 40 baht meals... They certainly will be open on Christmas Day, but I doubt they'll have gang turkey or larb turkey on the menu... <_<

You are right about that, of course, OldGit... But it's hardly a phenomenon that's unique to here.. Reminds me of a recent experience I had at Thanksgiving back in L.A. this year...

My family there wanted to order in a pre-prepared turkey dinner, and they had a Marie Calendar's restaurant nearby, and we've had their holiday takeout meals before... So I drove on down a few days before to check out their take out menu...

Now for Thanksgiving, they were offering a Thanksgiving Day takeout turkey dinner package for $100. But it also happens, I eventually discovered, that they have a Turkey Dinner package on their regular every day takeout menu as well for $40... Not exactly the same contents, but pretty close, and including all the essentials...sliced turkey, dressing, mashers, vegies, gravy, cranberry and a whole pie.

So I ended up going back there the day before Thanksgiving and picking up the turkey package dinner to go for $40, we kept it in the frig until the next day (Thanksgiving), and it was plenty enough to feed 4-6...and quite nice... But one day later, pretty much the same thing was going for $100.... Welcome to the Holidays, and Merry Christmas to one and all..

I myself would pay for a ukranian xmas feast. Btw not sure what roadhouse is offering for xmas but their regular sunday brunch around 450 has turkey and virginia ham etc

As anyone familiar with my restaurant reviews here knows, I'm a very value conscious diner... even on the holidays... And I suspect the locations for farang holiday meals (turkey, etc.) tend to stay the same pretty much year after year (even if the prices don't).

Based on past experience, for a holiday buffet meal, Bully's Pub on Suk near Soi 4 in Bangkok is probably the best combination of value and quality in holiday meal I've found in BKK... Their food is good quality, the price is reasonable, and they keep the buffet well stocked....

I know they do Thanksgiving every year, but I haven't seen any info this year as yet re Christmas Day.... Can anyone confirm their status for Christmas???

For the budget minded, there are other single serving/plate options more in the 300 to 400 baht range....

I popped into the Victoria pub the other day, they have a special 3 course english xmas dinner for about 850bht including if my memory is right, one or two glasses of house wine,

a bit expensive but seems a far better priced than the other places on offer, would agree most restaurants in bkk catering for the Farangs are well over priced, but can you blame

them,if they can find idiots to pay these inflatted prices, good luck to them.

Right. I had the turkey lunch at Greyhound, Emporium the other day for around 300 baht. It's not bad. The place was packed, though.

I'll try and remember to check on Bully's when I pass by there today.

Yes Camerata, but one question to consider re the Greyhound and other places is ... is their pricing before Christmas the same as their Christmas Day pricing....

For example, in checking the Londoner's web site earlier today, I noticed they are offering a Christmas holiday meal daily until the 24th...850 baht+ for adults, but then they have a very similar looking set menu on Christmas Day for 1400 baht... another seeming example of the Christmas Day gouge...

And those prices, interestingly, compare to their weekly Sunday roast BUFFET (not single plate serving) that's priced at 470 baht...

OK. to answer the question I myself had posed above, yes indeed Bully's Pub is offering their Christmas Buffet on Christmas afternoon and evening, 2 pm until 10 pm... 690 baht per adult.... Based on past years, it should be a very good meal...

They have a poster with the info out front at present, and paper menus for Christmas available inside...

J Chandler has nailed it of course.

Silver Dollar - great value for money.

I ate a free lunch at the Texas Lone Staar Thanksgiving.

The Madrid has a free dinner 12-24 at 6 pm.

Texas Lone Star will undoubrwdly be serving free at 3 pm.

None of the above can be classed at "tourist trap" More like customer loyality reward scheme.

Moonshine & many other Soi 22 places will be doing special meals. Check out D' Pelican - right next to Larry's Dive.
