nullx8
if the reset not works .. and the data is essential .. i would take the harddiscs out and put into another casing to retrieve the data.

nullx8
How does that work? - have a 3,5 Inch case of Firewire2IDE adapter handy - open the mybook - connect the adapter then you can access the disc just like it is installed in your Machine

However i can't open the hard drive to get my stuff. Even my mate whos better with comps has failed. Tried using a program called Recuva and it can find my pics but for some reason cant recover them. Any other programs that can be used that are free?
nullx8
oh, that sounds like a bigger problem, you are running windows ? Mybooks using FAT Formats, do not attempt to write to the disc at all ... if the files are "lost" (not in the fat-tables) they will be written over by new data fragments. WD recoments Data Lifeguard .. but i dont think this can recover your files properly.
ignis
Learnt long ago the hard way. Now for some years have always copied everything on PC and Laptop to RW DVD's, OK at the time the 10 x RW top quality DVD disc were very expensive, [wow got me thinking there about 10 years old now] but at least when I have new stuff I can just write over the top all the new data and pictures.. Can you plug a 'my book' into a PC to copy? or write a DVD? have USB and use an External HDD as a copy/image of My Book?
Jockstar
Have given up trying to fix myself. Have tried many things. Now the Pc wont even see the thing as a drive. It did yesterday but not now. Looks like i will have to send to someone to recover.
