Just heard there was a shooting at 8.30pm in Fishermans Village last night outside Mario's Aiia Baia restaurant and lots of tourists around.

Anyone have more news on this ?

i also heard the same thing, person shot at blank range, thai on Thai... there was supposed to of been alot of blood everywhere, with the thais frantically trying to clean it off the streets...

but with the above, this is not good for trade, as walking street would have been packed at this time !,

wow. was having dinner last night around 7 at the Emerald with the wife and little one, glad now it was an early night.

heard a bit more on the story,

The guy that got shot was on his motorbike outside the restaurant,

another thai guy walked upto him and shot him once in the side temple of his head, killing him instantly, and with the bike falling with him . The shooter then calmly walked down fishermans village and disappeared.

the guy was then left dead on the floor for a good 10 mins before being covered up by the police, but 100's of tourists witness this, with many actually taking photo's ( also same with the Thais)

this is very damaging news, and i hope they have caught or catch the killer, this is supposed to be Koh Samui, not the Slums of Brazil !, incidents like this can heavily affect tourism .... I mean what could have happened if he missed his shot and the bullet rickarshaded of something and hit a child !!! ,

Boaters description is the most accurate. Its was right in the center of Bophut outside Starfish and Coffee restaurant not the Italian.

The police did take a long time to arrive. I saw them pull a gun out of the dead guys pants.

A very audacious killing as it was peak tourist time for the village and there would have been a lot of people walking around.

Lost of families and children would have been walking by.

The word on the street was that the dead guy was one of the local bad lads. Quite often in trouble.

Gossip is that he had an argument with a friend and then drove into Bophut on his bike. The friend enlisted the help of another friend, and the two of them followed the victim on their bike.

The two guys caught up with the victim in Bophut, shot him and left.

This is all gossip on the street.

Peak season on one of the busiest streets on the island with restayrants filling up and many people wandering around or enjoying a drink or shopping. Its disgraceful and utterly shocking.

FV is one of the more sedate spots with many families visiting etc.....I'd be thinking twice if I had kids after this though....

Silent reader is correct. There was a shooting in Chaweng today. Sounds like the same as what happened in Fishermans village. A thai walked up to another thai and shot him in the head. It was near the motorbike shop when you turn left at the ice bar end of the lake road. He was also a bad lad. Maybe the incidents where connected.

I do not know the scene in Samui anymore , since a bit over a year . However from hear/say Bangrak and Bophut are very big on drugs , especially the harder stuff . I do not know if it is connected , but it would not surprise me .

BigC , the papers here are a waste of a Tree's Life..... they NEVER report what is going on, unlike there sister papers in Pattaya and Phuket..

What is mentioned above is not Gossip, but Eye Witness Facts. Why it happened, we will probably never know

Yes it maybe Thai on Thai, but we dont want Samui to turn into the streets of London where Black on Blacks kill each other everyday BUT innocent people do get caught up , all it takes is a miss fired shot and someone innocent gets killed, Especially in a packed environment like fishermans village or Chaweng .

Even if it is Thai on Thai, and we know they are not targeting us westerns ( well not most of the time ) , it is still a scary act to be witnessed by the average tourist , who is none the wiser that is Thai on Thai, as far as they know it could have been a robbery or high jack gone wrong with the death of a person..... if i witness this first hand, and being a first timer to samui, i CERTAINLY would not return

numerous farangs been hit by stray bullets in Chaweng, not targeted but still got a bullet, i was unfurtunate to witness a guy in solo get his brains blown out, physically yes i was ok but to witness it close up is some thing that stays for life, pressumably the bullet exited his brains and could have hit anybody.

thats exactly what it is hearsay, I live in Bangrak and visit F V regularly for dinner. I havnt seen no drug scene, a couple of laid back dudes perhaps having a joint and nothing more.

I rekon if you compared all areas then the misuse of drugs would be prorata with the numbers relevent to different localities.

I've seen harder stuff going around there . Offcourse nobody uses the hard stuff in public as it is hugely forbidden , so you won't know unless you know your ways . I do not know the ways but like stated in another post ( other topic about drugs ) i got somebody off using the hard stuff ( starting with y and i ) and this person was getting the stuff from Bangrak and Buphut area . That is a personal experience and i do not know the complete scene on Samui but it was a important reason of leaving Samui ( too many drugs , with too many people i know ) . This is just over a year ago so the scene might have changed or this was just coinsidance or whatever but like i said b4 , it would not surprise me that it has something to do with this .

best get a proxy server in case they track ip or some thing, beggars beleif that somebody can say just let them get on with shooting people in the head amongst hundreds of tourists.

i don't mean about what someone sore. i mean about the word on the street. The papers are quite vage out here but all they need to print is. what happened and what the police suspect and location. Words on the street can start rumers all of a sudden everyone is linking everyone to it.

I mean for most of us who have been here for a while it is normal now. if people could not handle this sorte of stuff after 5 years or more. then i am sure they would have left.

I know that some first timers migth certainly not return but it is funny human nature. some people do find this stuff interesting. i mean how many histroy books write about people going on holiday and have a good time with no problems.

It is human nature to be interested or the papers would not write about it.

Anyway each to there own. I just hope the Thais can sorte it out between them and hope tjhat no children or tourist get caught in the cross fire.

so just to be clear nobody has any clue as to why he was shot. everyone is assuming drugs. Like picking a crime out of a hat. maybe it was drugs, love triangle, mafia, land dispute. take your pick.

Dunno is anyone has been arrested.

As for motive can only go on what the police tell the paper and the papers tell us. if not much then case settled.

there isn't really much else the papers can write about.

Sometimes the thai national papers in thai write more about samui than the local paper.

anyway if u come to samui your are probably 99.5 per more likey to get seriously injured or die in a bike crash than gun shot. As for being robbed probably about a 15 % chance.

It depends how vanerable u make yourself. i see some forangs walking around like they have left there brains at home. walking around the boxing stadium with just a pair of shorts on and no shoes. no even a fighter.

people walking like snakes through the street so drunk they can't even find there way out of the road. Then people wonder why they wake up on the pavment with money missing thinking they have been drugged.

Sometime more likely they got drunk dropped all there money on the floor passed out and cant remember.

Drunk people drinkng all day on the beach then fancying a swim.

and yes u r right about stray bullets but there is not that many cases of them compared with people who have self damaged themselves.
