Have a 60 day tourist visa witch I extended for another 30 days. So I'm going on 90 days in country. Can I extend this visa again or do I have to leave Thailand and start all over again? My original visa is designated - 2 entries. What does that mean? Thanks, Doug

Assuming your passport is from a Designated country (USA, UK, EU, etc.) you can join the happy band of visa runners and go to Cambodia or Lao and get a new 60day double entry visa at the Thai embassy or consul there. You can extend that for a further 30 days in the same way as you did your original one.

Please note the comments in the forum about doing this too many times - more than 3 is probably not going to work.

Since you don't seem to have used the second entry of your visa just do a border run before the 'use by' date on the visa and you'll get another 60 days, which you can again extend by another 30.

I have a friend on a non-immigrant 'O' multiple entry visa who is going to be 16 days over his 90 days when he returns to the UK.

His easiest choice is to go to local immigration - what will they grant him or, does he have to go to the border to get +30 days ?

Thanks.

Maximum of 7 days at Immigration if he has a flight out of Thailand within those 7 days.

A land border run will get 15 days unless his Visa is still valid in which case he will get 90 days.

So what does one do 'way in the future' a year or so down the road?

Thanks, for all the input, guess my options are pretty simple - road trip to Lao or hop onboard the silver tube before my first visa expires..

Only Lao issues the double entry visa at this time and they are free until March 31.

friend went to PP Cambodia last week, no problem with a FREE double entry visa, they did tell him it was free until 4th March 2011..

Just wondered can you still get a double entry visa [2x 60days] if you pay after the Free period ? [of course maybe April there will be another FREE period announced]

Did he use an agent or applied himself?

He went with one of the Visa Run Companies so guess that is using an Agent.

I never had a tourist visa so Im not familiar with them. What I wanted to know is that you get a double entry and enter Thailand then you get 60 days correct? then before the 60 days are up and the visa is still valid (I assume the visa if valid for 90 days) you can leave Thailand and re-enter and get another 60 days? Similar to a 1 year visa that you can get 15 months.

You could do that or you could extend for 30 days but before expiration of visa make a new entry for a new 60 days (plus extension for 30 if wanted).

So here is how my visa saga turned out - Decided to make personally visit to Thai immigrations on Chaengwattana - So it was aboard the BTS to Mo Chit, (I like the BTS) once there showed the note I had a friend write in Thai, saying where I wanted to go, and was pulled into a van and on my way again only to be drooped off, with a lot of pointing and waving, in the middle of no where. Wondered around a bit only to be found by a taxi who promptly to took me to the wrong office then on my own I visited a couple more wrong offices, until at the last wrong office a nice lady directed me to pay 20 baht for a motorbike or take my chances on a bus that doesn't always show up. The motorbike guy zoomed me right there.

This is a big building, but it's easy to locate the immigrations/visa office and then jump into the line for the form lady, tried my darnedest to explain that I just wanted to get a few week extension but ended up with a form for reentry and told it would cost 1000 baht. OK, fill out the form and que up for the form checker/number dispenser lady - missed the whole back side of the form but she gave me a number anyway and passed me on. Filled out the rest of the form the best I could even though the questions didn't fit what I wanted, as I a waited for my number to be called. I'm up - getting late so the immigration lady is trying to handle a half dozen people at a time and then I show up - has me sit aside then after she clears her office explains how I have to leave the country and then just walk back in for a new 60 day visa, no money or forms required. So pretty much what you guys told me in the first place. Oh, should add the immigration officer who helped me in the end was really nice, giving me this warm and fuzzy feeling that she (Thailand) truly wanted me to stay in her country as long as possible.

I had already had plans in the works to go up to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai so I Incorporated a day trip up to Mail Sai and across the Burma border to Tachilek for a new visa. What an easy deal, no lines no waiting. Pass out of Thailand and into the Burma immigrations, they fill out the forms and take your photo, smile and joke with you as you pay then 500 baht. They ask if you want to go right back to Thailand or shop. I chose to shop, they held my passport and gave me a paper receipt with my photo on it. When I was finished walking around, passed back through and traded the paper for my passport, then in line is Thai customs and my second entry went into effect.. Oh should add - used a bus from the bus station in Chiang Rai to Mai Sai and then a sawngthaew to the boarder - bus at the bus station was marked and once in Mai Sai a guy with a sign was standing by his pickup saying "to the boarder and immigrations".

Someone should tell the guy with the sign that it's spelled "border". I can hardly believe how shoddy the Thai education system is.

Sorry to offend you Dick but the Thai sign thing wasn't a Thai thing - just my American sloppy typing and even worse editing.
