Tourist Driving In Th With German Driver License

Look to buy insurance!

GF car, can I drive it with a German driver license and will the voluntary 3rd party coverage pay, I am just coming to TH as a tourist so i can not get a Thai driver license!

international German Driver license not valid in Thailand according to Phuket Consul (TH did not sign the same international agreement, only 1949 convention not 1963)

the car is 27 years old in good condition (swiss mechanic)

Read the insurance papers very carefully, it will probably state that you need a Thai drivers license to be covered.

If your german lisence has english text, it is legal to drive on it if you are not here for more than 90 days. More than 90 days here, Thai drivers lisence is required

In Phuket you can make Thai drivers lisence on any Visa/permit to stay, same in Pattaya. Some DLT may have different Visa requirements tho

You can make your Thai drivers' license in Pattaya, located on the way to Rayong. ( Transportation department) Please be aware that you'll have to go to the Immigration first, they'll issue a document where you're staying (could be also the address of a hotel!)

When it comes to a test in English and you fail, just pay 500 baht and a lady will do that for you. All 60 questions. Your Thai license will be good for one year, after wards you can apply for a 5 year license. :jap:
