Thai English Thai Iphone App

Featured Replies

This is it: $25 seems steep but honestly I have never seen a talking dictionary app this good, in any language. This app blew me away.

Talking Thai–English–Thai Dictionary - By Paiboon Publishing:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id411632067?mt=8

Unsurprisingly, it has all 5 star ratings too - this talking dictionary accepts input in English, Thai, and a large variety of writing Thai sounds in the latin alphabet. It also has a words-in-words feature which tells you what other Thai words a Thai word is combined from - I've never seen anything like it, and I find it very useful as it makes it easier to remember and also gives some insight into how a word is "meant" in a way.

It seems to have a huge number of words built in, and tells you how to pronounce all of them - hence the hefty size, i guess, it's 300MB.

Anyway, this is better than any talking dict on the market, and cheaper too if you already have an iPhone, iTouch, or iPad.

nikster , thanks for that , it does look interesting , I think this is by the same people

There is a discussion on it already in the Thai language forum on TV.

I posted a comment on it on Itunes. I have zero regrets on it. Helps me tremendously when I teach. Some basic words are missing and I hope they update it soon.

PS.... No idea why these language words are coming up below. Please disregard. I restarted my pc multiple times, cleared all cache from Opera and still doing it.......

I have it on my computer, they didnt have it for the iPhone when I got it. Must be new iPhone app. I am going to download it but I have one that is really good called "Click Thai English" I use it all the time and use it in my Thai class also, teacher loves it

I use it hourly. Truly great little program. The female voice is very good, loud and clear. Every Thai word has 7 or 8 font samples, such as what it would look like if that word was on a sign, in script, etc.

The use of Thai sounds to look up a Thai word is a bit hit and miss. As Thais pronounce the B and the P almost the same, you will have to use them both to find a particular Thai word. Same with G and K (Kon or Gon).

Anyways, if anyone wants screen shots, let me know.

No, I have no financial interests, other than my darling wife to one day own 10 gold shops so I can retire.

I have it on my iPad, very nice indeed.
