PHUKET: -- The Poolasia Expo and Conference, billed as the first swimming pool and spa trade show in tropical Asia, will be held at Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa from March 4 to 6.

Event organizer Silkwaters Media is inviting swimming pool companies, contractors, spa suppliers, architects, developers, hotels, resorts, apartment owners and managers, hospitals, and private investors to participate.

About 1,000 trade visitors from countries in Southeast Asia as well as the Maldives, Sri Lanka, India and China will attend the conference, said Dr Josef Konrad, event organizer and publisher of trade industry journal PoolAsia.

The highlight will be a professional seminar on the challenges of maintaining healthy pool water in tropical environments.

Experts will discuss appropriate disinfection and efficient water treatment methods, Dr Josef added.

"Phuket has a great opportunity to gain from this event, which will offer certified training courses," he said.

Dr Alex Antiniou, from the US National Swimming Pool Foundation, will conduct Thailand’s first certified Pool and Spa Operator Course, he added.

Other courses will include Aqua Fitness Instructor courses conducted by experts from Germany.

“It will be interesting for hotels and resorts to have more pool activities for their guests to enjoy,” he said.

The fee is 1,000 baht per course, he said.

The topic of chemical-free swimming pools for the tropics will be introduced in the “Eco Pool Forum” at the conference, Dr Josef said.

Pool owners are welcome to update themselves on pool trends and technology during a pool clinic on March 6, when free water testing will be available from 10am to 5pm.

An expert team will be on hand to answer any questions related to pools in both English and Thai languages.

For more information and the full program list, visit the event website or call Ms Sirisak Kaewgorn at 053-334247.
