Thai couples attempt to break world record for longest kiss

2011-02-14 08:08:32 GMT+7 (ICT)

PATTAYA, THAILAND (BNO NEWS) -- Most couples kiss on Valentine's Day, but several couples in Thailand are determined to outdo them all: they are attempting to break the world record for the longest kiss.

The record attempt is being held in the Thai resort of Pattaya where 14 couples are trying to kiss more than 33 hours. They began on Sunday and - if they are successful - will end on Monday, Valentine's Day.

Only 30 minutes into the competition, however, one couple was disqualified after the woman fainted. Several other couples gave up after a few hours while others continued.

The current world record for the longest kiss was set by Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello in the United States last year, the first homosexual couple to break the record. They kissed for exactly 33 hours.

Before that, on Valentine's Day 2009, Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart set the world record with a kiss lasting no less than 32 hours, 7 minutes and 14 seconds. The record was set in Germany.

Couples who want to set their own kissing record have to keep in mind that there are several rules. For example, the rules state that the kiss must be continuous and the lips must be touching at all times. Further, the couple must stand the entire time, cannot take breaks and cannot be propped together by any aids such as pillows or people.

Actually, those rules are not correct. Any records to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records allow for breaks every hour etc -- look it up.

I don't see Guinness mentioned in the article but did a search and found this ...

The Rules

(If you want to break a record that is published in a record book or governed by an international authorithy, there may be other or additional rules. See here for more information.)

  • The kiss must be continuous and the lips must be touching at all times.
  • If the lips part - the couple are immediately disqualified.
  • Contestants must be over the age of consent in the country the event is being held.
  • The couple must be awake at all times.
  • The contestants must stand during the attempt and cannot be propped together by any aids, such as pillows, cushions or people.
  • No rest breaks are allowed.
  • Incontinance pads or adult nappies/diapers are not allowed.
  • Couples must not leave the venue during their attempt.

I thought some of the above was a joke but this appears legit. http://www.recordholders.org/en/records/kiss.html

I read before that this Pattaya competition was only open to married couples as Thai people are very conservative and frown on public displays of affection. :whistling:

well i was put off my coco pops this morning while watching this on the news to see to see a number of male couples also locking lips, so i don't think marriage is a rule for this.

That's true, we wouldn't want to see any displays of affection along Walking Street, God forbid!

The Australian news said that toilet breaks were allowed. Understandable because attempting to go 33 hours without a piss is going to mess up your kidneys and bladder. Guiness does not condone anything that is overtly dangerous.

I personally think they have become to PC .. actually thought this a while ago. They typically allow breaks like 15-minutes every couple hours (like a job) and to me this makes the record untrue. I think the longest kiss should be just that with no breaks at all and no help of any devices such as for using the toilet. However, If you can hold the kiss while using the toilet then so be it as long as you can do it standing and the rename the record to the Longest Kiss While Standing as I find the standing part to have nothing to do with kissing.

Bottom line is if somebody wants the record bad enough then they will shet themselves and make for a more interesting show for all. They do have a video of the gay couple breaking the record last year and after they won neither went running for the bathroom or even ran to sit down or fell on the floor. In fact they stopped at 33 hours then hugged and took bows. and was at least another minute before somebody gave them a chair. So how difficult was the record really beyond having 33 hours to waste?.

What would walking street have to do with affection - you mean infection don't you.

I searched for hourly breaks and found several ref. to it in articles with interviews with contenders for other records, ex "Under Guinness World Record Rules [the contender] is allowed a 5 minute break every hour or he can accumulate them if he wishes."

Assuming they are going for the "Guinness" record and you happened to see all the rules ... doesn't somebody from Guinness have to be present or something along those lines to certify the results. And as I stated earlier in regards to somebody else mentioning there are in fact breaks ... I really think it would be more true and interesting if there were no breaks. It really isn't the longest kiss if you stop it.

As for your finding the actual break time ... it is not much but time but if they save it then it comes out to almost 2 hours and 45-minutes in a 33-hour time period. For me this makes the record less impressive and not fair to those who held such records before the breaks came into play. Personally I think not being able to kiss or use the bathroom unless you can hold the kiss would make it more interesting and real. Plus it would really show the competitors true grit if in the 30th hour they just couldn't hold their bowels any longer and had to decide if sitting to take a crap is more important than the record or if they went for broke and unloaded in their pants. And if they took this dump early in the competition then they might be able to set another record for their partner in terms of kissing somebody the longest time with soiled shorts. laugh.gif

I would be okay with drinking too if you they could hold the kiss ... like using a straw. But bottom line is how can you have a record for longest kiss if every hour you get to stop kissing?

Thai 'kissathon' claims new world record

BANGKOK, February 14, 2011 (AFP) - Seven amorous but exhausted couples smooched their way to a new world record in Thailand on Monday with the longest continuous kiss lasting more than 32 hours -- and kept going.

The contestants broke the previous world record of 32 hours seven minutes and 14 seconds set in Germany and were vying to become the last ones locking lips for a prize of about $3,250 cash and a diamond ring, organisers said.

"I am glad we could set a new record," said Somporn Naksuetrong, general manager of the Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in the resort of Pattaya which hosted the Valentine's Day event.

"But at the same time I'm worried for our contestants. They looked really tired. We've already prepare medical services ready for them."

He said he was particularly concerned about one 51-year-old woman and her 37-year-old husband.

"The wife is weary but not giving up. She is exhausted but she wrote a note to us saying they will be the last couple. I think they will stay until they collapse," Somporn said.

Fourteen couples joined the contest, kissing their way through the night without stopping even when sipping liquids through straws or going to the toilet with their partner.

They were forbidden from sitting down -- except when going to the toilet -- or falling asleep. Seven dropped out before reaching the new record.

I guess they decided the Gay Couple from the USA who hold the record at 33-hours just don't count. Odd too since they mentioned them as being the record holder in the previous news report.

I guess this must mean they had somebody watch them take a dump to verify they didn't stop kissing. Possibly also verifying something was actually coming out too since they could just be pretending to go to the bathroom to get a sitting break.

I tend to think the previous post of 5-minute breaks every hour are more accurate than these news reports.

World kissing record broken amid explosion of loving acts

Lovers nationwide celebrated Valentine's Day yesterday, with 250 couples registering their wedding at Bangkok's Bang Rak (Village of Love) district, while Pattaya hosted a contest for the longest kiss - and seven couples broke the world record.

As has become tradition, couples made their weddings memorable at various sites in Thailand. Nine couples in Chiang Mai registered their marriage midair in balloons, while 20 couples trekked "to prove their everlasting love" at the top of Loei's Phu Luang mountain.

At a weddingregistration event hosted by Bang Rak district office at the Bangkok Commercial Asset Management Building, newlyweds Ekkachai Saranet, 31, and Ratchadawan Chotikul, 28, were the first to win a golden marriage licence.

In Pattaya's Royal Garden Plaza, a contest to try to break the world record for the longest kiss was successful. The old record of 32 hours, seven minutes and 14 seconds was set in the German city of Hamburg on Valentine's Day in 2009.

Yesterday, when the clock passed the record time, seven of 14 couples in the contest were still standing kissing.

They shared prizes worth Bt200,000 in total.

While many gave lovers roses and chocolate, many Thai teens begged to differ. Chandrakasem Rajabhat University student Wanicha Jaemsaard said she would like a trip with a loved one rather than a rose and would like to do social service such as making Braille books for the blind.

University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce student Panich Maneerat said he would like to celebrate the day by donating blood to the Red Cross Society because the day should be a chance to do good with loved ones.

At the Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary in Loei's Phu Rua district, 20 couples trekked through the mountaintop's wildrose meadow in cool weather and admired 160 species of orchids before registering their marriages.

In Chiang Mai's Muang district, eight Thai couples and one British couple got on balloons to register their weddings midair in the Chalermphrakiat 80 Pansa Park.

Not only people got into the act. At the Chiang Mai Night Safari, seven pairs of rabbits were "wedded" in three types of ceremonies - Thai Lanna, Chinese and international - with Chiang Mai Governor MR Disanadda Disakul presiding.

At Chiang Mai Zoo, officials decorated the panda display with pink hearts for Thaiborn youngster Lin Ping. Fruit in a heartshaped basket was given to Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, although Lin Ping was still too small to eat anything other than apple and bamboo bread.

How the bloody hell does one take a piss? Hold it in for 30+ hours?? Their lips must get dry too.... swapping ALOT of spit.

No toilet breaks, it's a "Longest Continuous Kiss" record attempt...

LOL - on the verge of silly...and this is why the 5-min break rule exists in Guinness Record attempts - but this wasn't one of them.
