Repatriation Back To The West

Recommended Posts

I am moving back to the west and I am wondering what loose ends I need to tie up before I move on. I have a few assets to sell (a nuvuo elegance motorbike with 13k km on it, ping pong table, 41" plasma tv, king sized bed, bunch of furniture, etc). I know I need to close down bank accounts, inform my landlord of my intention to vacate...is there anything else you can think of that I need to be thinking about doing before I leave?

- if your landlord is holding a deposit to cover any damage and your final month's rent, you SHOULD give him 30 days notice on the presumption that you want it returned. (This can be tricky; don't start by telling him that you are leaving the country. You may have to stay in a hotel/guesthouse for a day or two, if he gives you some story about why he can't hand you the money your last day in his premises.)

- bank accounts will be closed automatically after 2 yrs. of inactivity, there is no need for you to do anything.

- on your way out through the airport, or overland, you will be giving the Thai govt. the only notice they need.

In summary, I don't believe there are any requirements.

Hook up with a good employment agency that can find you a good job in Bangkok.

I left Thailand to come back to America, and I count the days until I can return...stay in Thailand, don't move back...don't do it :(
