At first I felt sorry for the Mr mak mak but even a blind man would notice the difference. Smell and touch still being available to the blind. It must be a very severe handicap. Poor fella. It is a wonder he can type.

Or...........maybe his preferences and personal opinions are just different than yours. People are allowed to have preferences. Shocker, I know. ;)

Kinda depends on which part of Thailand you may be in...When I lived in Chiang Mai as where UG is, I thought about 5 out of 10 thai ladies were drop dead gorgeous. Now living on Phuket and the gorgeous ones are about 1 in 10. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but for me the change was very apparent.

Boyz. The OP used the "term" 2nd class citizens. It's a term. He did not mean literally that we are somehow citizens and have a 2nd class status.

It's a phrase. Take a break.

I expect an avalanche of posts talking about how indeed Thai women are ugly, and they look down at them from their penthouse in Sathorn with scorn, as they wrap their arms around their porcelain skinned lovely (UK educated of course)

That shit never gets old. :)

Even rich educated Thais believe in ghosts and make offerings to inanimate objects. Is it silly?

I am a relatively rich, educated Brit and I believe in ghosts. I too have made many offering to inanimate objects. I don't think it's silly.

Hmm, my "educated" 10 year old nephew also believes in ghosts. Do you believe in Santa too? :whistling:

the average thai women are not very good looking.

I hope that this is supposed to be a joke. IMHO, the proportion of attractive women here is much higher than almost any place in the world.

Ulysses This time I have to agree with you 100%!! MrMakMak must have a mobility white stick.

Miss Universe contest. There accepted standards of beauty that have to do with symmetry, shape and other universally accepted criteria.

There are women in any culture who at 16 years of age know they will never have to work a day in their lives.

They know that men of all ages will fall all over themselves just to gain a glance or touch or smile.

If one is a world traveler he has figured this out.

Thailand is what it is and has always been what it is because of its women.

If aliens with six legs and arms came down from outer-space they would take back with them, one Chicago style pizza and 20 Thai women. The only really great things that earth really has to offer.

Speak for yourself. I judge individuals by their actions not by what group you happen to lump them into.

Entirely as I do. I can't change the world so I don't even try. I'm just pleasant to everyone, and for the most part, people are pleasant in return.

Thailand has deemed that foreigners can't own land, so that decision alone changes my outlook on living in Thailand permanently. I understand WHY Thailand doesn't want foreigners to own land. It's because countries with far more wealth could actually buy a major portion of Thailand and change it forever. Authorities justifiably don't want that to happen. Unfortunately, In Canada our present leaders do not think the same way and the government leaders are selling out the public's ownership of our own country.

And yet despite your doom and gloom, it remains one of the top places in the world to live.

What doom and gloom? I love my life here and abroad. I'll be dead and gone before whoever is running Canada ruins it. That will be my children's problem to deal with. As for myself I'd just line the buggers up and shoot them all. Then, ask who is next. :whistling: I've already lived to see the destruction of its once proud police force... the RCMP. That happened from the top down.

I kind of enjoy the wild west atmosphere of Thailand. Everyone has to be responsible for their own actions or they suffer the consequences... even though they DO blame it on Buddha.

You obviously can't get much in your own country, the average thai women are not very good looking.

Who cares about the average ones, or the old, fat ones? Sure, I see lots of those as well. But, when a 71 year old dude like me has beautiful 20 somethings with hot bodies who call me their "friend" why should I care? I can't wear them out, but they certainly can wear me out and leave me with a big grin on my face. And, that nice smile I put on their face is all worth it.

But I don't regret the time I spent raising a wonderful family in Canada. They were worth every penny and heart ache dealing with their mother. She just released me to a far better life in my later years.

If you look at the opinions of the men who live in Thailand or frequently travel here (and the ones who post on TV), of course Thai women will be their "gold standard." There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But, if you asked the guys who spend all their free time in South America, I bet a lot of them would say that the bronzed, curvy Latin women are the most beautiful in the world. Etc, etc, etc, depending on which expats you are sampling. I never said that Thai women aren't beautiful, just that your opinion does not equal the absolute truth, and just because another guy doesn't agree doesn't mean there's something wrong with him.

Miss Universe contest. There accepted standards of beauty that have to do with symmetry, shape and other universally accepted criteria.

Is that your justification for calling Thai women the most beautiful women in the world? Because Miss Thailand one a photogenic award this year? Take a look at the Miss Universe statistics, and see how many times a woman from Thailand has won the competition. If we're going to go with your Miss Universe theory, great....I believe that the US is the most winning country, therefore American women must be the most beautiful in the world!!!! :D KIDDING! Still think that the Miss Universe should be the standard to follow?

Let's face reality - we are second class residents here, the same way that immigrants in our own country are sub-consciously seen as not quite 'us'.

Living on Phuket I've found that Thais generally give a wide (fake) smile, looking forward to the money they can get.... BUT, I've also noticed that if you give them a genuine smile and start talking/laughing with them, they are only too happy to be genuinely friendly too.

Its down to us to make them realise we are decent, friendly people - rather than the current stereo-type, which gives them every reason to dislike us.

No I base it strictly on my own opinion. I had been around the world twice by the time I was 22. I am now 65. I have lived and worked in many different countries. I spent the most time in the US, both in California and Florida. Thailand is a tiny little place. How they cram it so full of beautiful women has always amazed me. I could live in Florida for the same price I live in Thailand. The climate is about the same. I get free medical care in Florida and even free Viagra, Cuba is only 90 miles away. The food, even the Thai food is much better. I had mango's, bananas and pineapple growing in my yard along with grapefruit and seafood is plentiful and as cheap as throwing some bait in the ocean. I can dive and pick up lobsters in season or spear red snapper and no air pollution. My first wife was Miss Michigan and my second wife was better looking than the first. Why would I choose to live in Thailand? Is that a question any reasonable man would ask?

What a load of <deleted> !!

I'm taking it that by using the words " 2nd class citizens " that we are somehow treated worse than the Thai are or that we don't get the same benefits. The most obvious example of a benefit being land ownership which so many people go on about all the time. Simple fact is we are not Thai so they are just looking after their own and I can't blame them. It's only because most of us want some of what they've got without having to either marry a Thai or have shitloads of cash on hand.

Healthcare is another thing where Thais would have more benefits over us, if you are not paying tax that is. If you are paying tax then you are entitled to government healthcare. You get out what you put in. Many people in the West do have private healthcare too and is government healthcare in our own countries that good ?

Those are IMO the two main areas where Thais have more benefits than us. However I feel that the OP is sort of implying that it is more a case of Thais looking down on us and treating us differently on a day to day basis. In my everyday life I don not see this at all and in many instances I would say that I have been on the end of better treatment and service than I should have had. Especially so with my children . Thailand has got to be the most children friendly country in the world . I have said this before but once you have children here it is ( to Thai people ) like you have bought into the country somehow and you are now a ( non-voting ) shareholder. I get treated very well here. No problems whatsoever. I think it depends more on where you live and who you are living with. Do you where a shirt and tie in the morning or a pair of flip flops and a vest ? This stuff matters to Thais and like someone else said , running a bar pimping out women isn't going to endear you to too many people. Who is this guy you were talking too and why is his voice the truth ?

As far the comparisons with muslims. What a load of absolute rubbish. For starters many muslims in Thailand are married to buddhists with no conversions whatsoever and even married to westerners too. To the OP : keep your prejudices to yourself !

he's allowed his own opinion, and it's a fair statement. If someone is average then by definition they are not at the top of the food chain in the looks department so they probably aren't very good looking.

You could say there is a better looking average than in other countries maybe. It's all subjective though.

Thai women are considered incredibly attractive 'cos:-

a) they're generally v small and petite when young. FAR smaller than the average Western woman (makes the farang feel big and important....)

B) they have an 'oriental' look - the unusual is generally attractive.

c) the young are available to old farang men. Not going to happen at home unless you are famous or v wealthy.

A and C are the most important reason why farangs think they are incredibly attractive

Mind you, most farangs who have lived here for a few years become more discerning, whilst still appreciating item c).

Actually research shows that belief in the supernatural & pseudo-science increases with IQ, until post-graduate level where critical thinking skills are learnt.

What's the old saying - the older I get the more they stay the same

Every day the same thing...variety.

You can't be serious. I used to pull co-eds out of the Ewa womens college near the train station. Attractive sure, but dam_n they smell.

Never been to Taipei, nor Tokyo. Did know some girls in Osaka. Can you say 70's bush?

So which one are you ? MakMak rolleyes.gif

Very simplistic viewpoint but highly inaccurate as westerners in Thailand are merely tolerated as long as they have money whereas the west allows foreigners to live in their countries with rights akin to those of home grown nationals. Thailand offers nothing.

You may be right, but I think it's important to remember that Thailand does not = The West. And that's exactly why a lot of people seem to come to Thailand. A lot of people on these forums talk about how they are sick of all the government involvement, rules, and oversight in the West. They like they can do what they want over here in Thailand, and nobody bothers them or gets too involved in their business. If they want to come to Thailand to escape the "oppression" of the West, then they really can't expect Thailand to offer the same things as the West, such as in the case of immigrants' rights. There's always a trade-off, and for most westerners, living in Thailand is a choice.

Agreed but if you qualify for a visa to stay or do business in the UK, you can, after a relatively short period of time, receive permanent residence and then fairly routinely obtain a UK passport. The same is not true of Thailand and if they change the rules one day because some twit got out of the wrong side of bed, then you may be screwed, with no recourse. I don't think people really want or need Thai passports but I'd like to see some form of permanent residence with greater visa stability than there is at present.
