Thais Call for Faster Solutions to Economic Problems

Thais are calling for the government to come up with a quick solution to solving the price rise of commodities as many are struggling to keep up with expenses.

As commodity prices have soared in recent weeks due to various factors, Thais are calling for a quicker solution to the problem.

Many have called on the government to decrease expenses and increase household income, as many are struggling to make ends meet.

The public has criticized the government for increasing salaries of government officials, while families are suffering from higher expenses.

In particular, the government has been critized for its inability to solve the hiked prices of palm oil due to its current shortage.

As for the Strong Loan Project under the Pracha Wiwat scheme, Thais are of the opinion that it would only increase debt.

Instead, the government should emphasize on poverty reduction through ensuring fairness for both consumers and operators.

Thais have also asked the government to solve issues surrounding social security in terms of accessibility and service quality, as many groups of people still lack coverage and those with coverage, they have faced unsatisfactory service.

Show me a government that can 'decrease expenses and increase household income simultaneously' - they don't possess a magic wand.

They clearly don't understand that commodity prices are essentially determined by supply and demand either(with speculators playing their part in price volatility) and this cannot be manipulated by any government in any way.

When the government does try to assist in aiding the poor with poverty relief schemes, they claim that this will increase government debt. Words fail me!!!

The Government could decrease expenses if they made a stand over corruption / not speculators involved in commodity prices e.g Rice hoarding and provision of licenses to sell said rice, ditto Palm Oil, and no an "investigation" by the DSI is not going to make much difference there, not when there are certain peoples families are tied up in the business, a blatant conflict of interest if ever there was one. It would also help that those on the minimum wage receiving an extra 10 baht/day were not subject to the whims of Tambon Administrative Officials who see their pay increase by 100 per cent - a gift from the Democrats who didn't want to rock the boat and upset their Interior Ministry owning coalition partners the BJP. I could go on. So you could say that the ordinary Thai doesn't understand that the commodity prices cannot be manipulated in any way by the government but rather just think that there are just too many noses in the trough for the government and its constituent partners not to be involved. How very dare they for even thinking such a thing.
