Released Red-shirt Leaders to Address Rally

A red-shirt leader says he will ask his fellow men who have fled arrest warrants for their roles in last year's political unrest to turn themselves in after eight of the group's key elements were released on bail.

The freed defendants will also deliver their speeches at the group's rally next month.

Red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan, also Pheu Thai party-list MP, said his group's all eight core elements who were released on bail yesterday will host lunch for Buddhist monks at Pahtumwanaram Temple this Sunday to make merit for those killed during the crackdown on the red-shirt protests in May last year.

Jatuporn said those key figures will also deliver their speeches on the rally stage during the March 12 rally to remember the red-shirt mass demonstration last year.

He insisted the appearance of the freed red-shirt key elements on the group's rally stage will not violate the court's bail conditions as they do not leave the country or provoke the people to turmoil

The red-shirt group has also set March 26 for its concert at Bonanza ranch in Nakhon Ratchasima's Khao Yai National Park to welcome its released leaders.

Jatuporn then remarked he will convince other red-shirt core leaders who remain at large, such as Arisman Pongroengrong, Suporn Atthawong and Jaran Dittha-apichai, to turn themselves in to enter the judicial process and petition for their release on bail.

Jatuporn said the group will continue to rally at the Bangkok Remand Prison and at prisons in provinces, such us Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani, where its elements are still held.

Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship chairwoman Thida Thavornsetr said although the core leaders were released, the group will continue rallying and step up its campaign to pursue justice.

Thida said the group will stick to its anti-coup stance given the military intervention can take place as the House is not dissolved yet and the Thai-Cambodian dispute is not resolved.

Public Urged to Watch Released Red-Shirt Leaders

The air force chief asks the public to help watch behavior of seven red-shirt leaders and one member who have been granted a temporary release on bail.

Air Force Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Itthiporn Supawong reserved his opinion on the release of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship's seven core leaders and one member on bail.

The air force chief spoke following a reception ceremony for six Swedish-made Rippen' Gripen 39 C/D fighter jets to replace the fleet at the 701th Fighter Squadron in the southern province of Surat Thani.

However, Itthiporn called on the public to keep an eye on behavior of the red-shirt leaders.

He said apparently, many activist groups organize their campaigns using undemocratic means despite advocacy for democracy they claim.

did he take the opportunity of reception for fighter jets to speak about his sick dog or subject equally absurd to the occasion?

what about mentioning something about 2 f16 planes which came down just the last week?

he is the air force chief, not a prosecutor or some politician. Or is he indeed pulling strings in politics as well as the air force?

QUOTE(New Mandela- Jim Taylor):"Coincidentally (or was it?) also yesterday at around 2 am police finally closed in on Surachai “Sae Dan” Danwattananusorn for his increasingly brazen and frank statements about corruption and nepotism within the ruling regime, continuing injustices."

"A number of Red Shirts have suggested the timing for the release of UDD core leaders and the imprisonment of Red Siam’s leader Surachai is not coincidental. The intention, many believe, is to create a further rift between these two Red groups within the mass social movement."

(From New Mandela - Abhisit’s ongoing campaign against free speech - February 23rd, 2011 by Jim Taylor)

Yesterday seven core leaders were released on bail of 600,000 baht each and told not to “incite” the masses and not to leave the country; in effect, silenced.

Coincidentally (or was it?) also yesterday at around 2 am police finally closed in on Surachai “Sae Dan” Danwattananusorn for his increasingly brazen and frank statements about corruption and nepotism within the ruling regime, continuing injustices.

Surachai had been urging summit institutional reform along the lines of the Japanese model to avoid the likelihood of civil war in Thailand.

Plain clothes police carrying weapons pointed to his head took him away to hear charges against him and then he was taken to Klong Prem Prison. Surachai told me last month that this day would inevitably come and that he was quite prepared to sacrifice himself for democracy. He said he would not challenge his arrest or retract anything he has said because he felt that this was the truth and he wanted everyone to hear and reflect on this and then see for themselves what is going on in Thailand at this time."

Khun Jakrapob Penkair, from hiding outside the country, issued a strong statement on Thai E-News condemning the arrest saying that “let those among the masses who now have their ‘eyes open" and who are ‘revolutionaries’ please continue to join this important path with me. I offer myself to be part of the movement for Thailand’s democratic revolution. Let all core leaders who are ready for the ‘long-distance walk’ such as [Red Siam's] Khun Palot Chaloemsaen co-ordinate this task inside the country for the masses”. He finally asked all Red Shirts to continue to join together on the path to democracy.

A number of Red Shirts have suggested the timing for the release of UDD core leaders and the imprisonment of Red Siam’s leader Surachai is not coincidental. The intention, many believe, is to create a further rift between these two Red groups within the mass social movement.

Come on. Are we expected to receive this report as a legitmiate news story? This is vitriolic - pro-government - pro-establishment - anti-Red-Shirt clap-trap.

Personally - I'll be keeping a careful watch on Air Force Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Itthiporn Supawong in the future if he continues to come out with any more of this ammart twaddle.

Crowd Control Forces Adjust to Prepare for Red-shirt Movement

The police have adjusted the size of their crowd-controlling forces in preparation for the upcoming red-shirt rally, after the group leaders were released on bail.

Spokesperson of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order or CAPO, Police Major General Prawut Thavornsiri said the number of police forces deployed to oversee security at the political rallies will be reduced from 27 to 19 companies.

CAPO believes the possibility of violent incidents is low.

The red-shirt Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship has scheduled another rally for March 12 after its core-leaders were released on bail earlier this week.

The group has also planned a religious ceremony for March 27.

Prawut pointed out that the released red-shirt leaders must follow their bail condition, which is to promote national reconciliation, refrain from inciting unrest, and staying within the country.

The Department of Special Investigation is responsible for monitoring their actions.

The CAPO spokesperson believes this will not affect the rally currently being conducted by the People's Alliance for Democracy or the PAD, who may be dissatisfied with the release of the red-shirt leaders.

Prawut also pointed out that National Police Chief, Police General Wichian Potposri has been summoned to appear at court to explain the government's decision to invoke the Internal Security Act.

Wichian has delegated the task to Deputy Police Chief Worapong Chewpreecha.

Meanwhile, concerning the charges of terrorism against the yellow-shirt PAD, the prosecutor has asked the police to complete the investigation report before it will be decided whether the case will be put on trial.

He reassured the public that this is not merely an attempt to force the yellow-shirt PAD protesters to end their rally.

Thought I would have a look at the web site of the Bonanza Ranch and see the weekend room rates (26 March Saturday) are from between 1775B and 7900B per night.

And then there is the Golf tournament.

How many of the rabble of this poor mans movement will be invited to either?

Holy shisen housen how can the idiots get away with being so blatant, cant the poor followers see that they mean nothing to these clowns?

I stayed at the resort for one night last year and it was around 3500 THB for the room. The receptionists gave the worst room after declining their "invitation" (more like force of payment) of their event that was being held there that night for which tickets cost 2000 THB. I attended anyway via the back, and they even charged extra for soft drinks and alcohol! In the room there were almost no TV channels, The hot water didn't work in the shower (in the mornings it's very cold), and the toilet blocked after I excreted my faeces. The walls were so thin that I could hear people in the next room talk. Breakfast had some hot dishes but no meat, other than in a soup and some sausages. It was the worst value for money accommodation I've ever stayed at. I've stayed in much better conditions for 600 THB per night. Only later I learned of the connection of the owner with Thaksin, after which I felt further disgusted.
