By Nuttaporn Chanchokpong.

BANGKOK, 27 February 2011 (NNT) - The Public Health Ministry prepared a new proposed draft bill on cosmetics to be considered in the upcoming Cabinet meeting, aiming at improving the quality of Thai cosmetics to be more appropriate, up-to-date, and safe, and to be in line with other ASEAN countries. The Public Health Ministry also hopes that Thai cosmetics industry can compete in the world market in the future.

Public Health Ministry Spokesperson, Dr. Supan Srithumma said Public Health Minister, Jurin Laksanawisit recently signed a new proposed draft bill on cosmetics to be considered by the Cabinet. He added that the new draft bill would be able to cover consumer protection more effectively and also help support Thai cosmetic industry to compete in the world market. The new draft bill will be improved in 5 different aspects, giving clear definitions of cosmetics, increasing control measures, protection for consumers, enhancing efficiency in advertising control, and promoting export of the products.

Currently there exists a large amount of cosmetic businesses in Thailand asking for registration and license from The Food and Drug Administration.

A new "HUB" in the making??

Or a new "crackdown" ?

Rats! You both beat me to it.

IMO the cosmetics industry is one of the World's greatest scams. It feeds on peoples insecurities. If a Thai lady is passed up by a guy because her complexion is too dark for his taste then she should be glad to have missed out collecting a shallow minded idiot. Similarly any lady that wants to become Miss World needs to examine her view of the personal values that are necessary for a contented life.
