Deputy Prime Minister Believes Bails of Red-shirt Leaders to Cool Off Politics

The deputy prime minister believes that the release of seven of red-shirt leaders will help cool the political climate and bring about national reconciliation.

Deputy Prime Minister Major General Sanan Kachonprasat said he hoped his role in accommodating the bail requests for the seven key members of the red-shirt movement will not dissatisfy Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

He said he believes that all sides, including the premier, will realize his good intentions.

Sanan claims he wants help restore peace in the Kingdom ahead of the upcoming general election expected in June.

Sanan has been on a personal campaign for national reconciliation, meeting key political figures, including red- and yellow-shirt leaders, over the past months.

He claims the release of the pro-Thaksin leaders will help ease the political conflict.

When asked if the bail would result in a renewed mass rally, Major General Sanan was of the view that no leader is able to control every single protester.

He added that the court has already prohibited the seven leaders from instigation and that security officers are the key to any anti-violence prevention.

When asked if the movements of the red-shirt people who follow the premier everywhere will delay the next general election, the deputy prime minister said that it is possible, but he strongly believes that reconciliation is still possible.

I believe Sanan wishes to be PM after the next election, if Pheua Thai have the most seats, but not a majority, then they'll call in Chart Thai Pattana as partners and offer Sanan the job.

Are any Chart Thai Pattana ministers singled out for attack in the upcoming censure debate? I don't think so.

I see, so he is the one that let them out? Sounds like wishful thinking on his part? Problems have a habit of not going away when it involves the Red Shirts.

Time for this guy to retire and go back to his ostrich farm. He's never contributed much anyway and was convicted before of colusion.

Now he saya the government should tell the judiciary to free people. Never mind whether it's red shirt people or whoever, this is totally inapropriate and he should know better then this. But in reality he shows that respect for judicial process is zero and he believes governemt should do whatever it pleases. Democratic appraoch? NO!

And some people suggest he might be the next PM. Worst news ever.

His on-going claims of working towards reconcoliation has no firm basis and undermines any progress through the existing structured legal approaches.

Zero value.

That's funny!! I thought it was up to the court's jurisdiction to provide bail. Interesting to note - whilst they released these infamous 7 on bail they arrested 'red shirt' Surachai Damwattananusorn for insulting the monarchy - so much for their stated denial of not 'being anti-monarchist'!!!

As we all know, history is full of examples where a policy of Appeasement of extremists has brought a lasting peace and solution to problems.

I just can't think of an example at the moment....
