True "Hi -Speed" Net Sim -

Featured Replies

I noticed this "Hi - Speed" 7.2MB Net Sim being advertised by True,

Is this really any faster than any other True Sim ? or just a marketing gimmick ?

A SIM is a SIM is a SIM. Phyically they are all the same, and would thus acheive the same velocity if say thrown. Service providers package SIMs in a variety of promotional formats, in an attempt to appeal to specific segments. The services subsequently linked to that SIM can vary.

The Truemove Hi-Speed NetSIM is a pre-paid SIM package which buckets 3G, EDGE/GPRS/WiFi/SMS/MMS/Voice into one service offering. 3G is offered in limited locations, via HSPA on 850 Mhz which maxes out at 7.2 Mega-bits per second (Mbps).

I have this SIM, and use the 399 baht/month package. I max out at ~ 4.6 Mbps; I may not have the best "modem firmware", or it could be my primary location. Voice calls are 1 baht/min (anytime, all networks), SMS are 1.25 each.

Thanks for taking time to reply:

I also have the same 399 per month package but probably beciuse of my location the most I can get out of the True connection is 28Kbps ! which is awful. I just kind of hoped this was something NEW but I guess not.

Its not via the phone, I am using a "dongle".(Edge modem) with my laptop as we cannot get landlines here.

CAT do better at 300kbps with their dongle. I just wanted to have an alternate if CAT go down or something as the last few days have been getting outages regularly and dropiing connections every 10 minutes or so and its driving me nuts!

I do use the True Sim in my phone but rarely use the internet aspect of the phone unless I am travelling. The internet actually works really well in Bangkok, so I guess its all down to location.

If you live in an area which is covered by True 3G (most of metro-Bangkok), then you could get an aircard or MiFi device.

Any device will need to support 3G/850 Mhz.

suddenly there is 3 G in Thailand??? in MOST??? of metro bkk??? please clarify and add speeds, since i belive in LARGE parts of metro bkk it will be 28.8k ....

anyway 3 G is obsolete we talking 4 G now....

Both True and TOT have 100% 3G coverage in metro-Bangkok. Both have 500 + base stations deployed.

Speeds max. out at 7.2 Mega-bits per second (HSDPA), although AIS may have up to 21 Mega-bits per second in one of their small trial locations.

I have True 3G everywhere I go in metro-Bangkok; am currently in Prawet/Dokmai and have it. D/L speeds for me range 2.5 Mbps - 4.6 Mbps; more than adequate for most smart-phone apps., IME. Heck, it's equal to my home DSL connection, and hardly obsolete.
