Opposition Party Asked to Help Maintain Peace

The deputy prime minister overseeing national security vows to keep the country in order during the forthcoming no-confidence debate.

He urges the Opposition and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to stop causing political unrest.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban has pledged to maintain peace in Bangkok as the red-shirt movement is set to stage a mass rally next week.

He said he has already talked to police and they will work together to ensure public safety during the censure debate period.

Suthep went on to say he really wanted leaders of the Pheu Thai Party and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to cooperate with the government and not cause anymore political unrest as the government has already pledged to hold an election in mid-2011.

He added the premier even agreed to face a censure debate as requested by the Opposition to ease political tension outside Parliament.

Suthep concluded by saying Pheu Thai should dedicate its time to prepare for the next election instead of taking to the streets.

Govt Orders Close Watch on Protests

The prime minister affirms the current protests by several groups have no bearing on his intention to dissolve the House early and assures the upcoming red-shirt major rally will cause no disruption to the censure debate.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the upcoming no-confidence debate will proceed as planned although the red-shirt major rally on March 12 will fall on the last day of the debate.

Abhisit said he has already ordered security agencies to follow up and assess the situation constantly.

The prime minister went on to say the House dissolution will certainly take place regardless of the protests, but cautioned the demonstrators to conduct their political activities in compliance with the Constitution.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban stated the current protests by various groups remain peaceful, but their moves remain under the government's close watch as part of its preparation for the upcoming election.

Suthep remarked the government has received no reports on irregularities during the red-shirt mass rally next Saturday.

The deputy premier remarked that fugitive former prime minister Thakisn Shinawatra has pledged he will not incite chaos in the country as his request for the election to be held within this year has already been met.

He urged the opposition Pheu Thai Party to concentrate on the preparation for the upcoming poll rather than political games inside and outside Parliament.

Regarding the contradictory investigation reports on the type of firearm which caused the death of a Japanese cameraman during the political unrest last April, Suthep said the findings must be based on scientifically-proven evidence and he has never interfered with the investigation.

Suthep remarked that the Department of Special Investigation should not be faulted for its initial report that the bullet that stuck the Japaneses cameraman was fired from the military line which contradicted the new finding that the victim was mostly likely killed by an AK47 rifle that was not used in the operation to disperse red-shirt rally last year.

Surely, just as you wish.

Government should make a list of their wishes and nice to officially to give it to opposition.

Then pompously, with all loyal media let to ordinary people see how the Government behold a very democratic and fair.

Duty of ANY opposition in this world IS to make a problem to Government, political ways and to try to force them step down.

So, this is just a dream of dems.

This way of speak of Deputy of PM, looks like fear is coming to the bones of democrat so they try to manipulate public(again).

He urges the Opposition and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to stop causing political unrest. Sure, just name your wish so they will let you alone.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban has pledged to maintain peace in Bangkok as the red-shirt movement is set to stage a mass rally next week. So what? It is normal political activity of UDD. Not the first nor the last time they are making rally. So what is different now so statement looks like panic? No reason for any panic.

He said he has already talked to police and they will work together to ensure public safety during the censure debate period. Oh, THIS is what is different. Censure debate.

Suthep went on to say he really wanted leaders of the Pheu Thai Party and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to cooperate with the government and not cause anymore political unrest as the government has already pledged to hold an election in mid-2011. Is this statement of Deputy PM some sign that the recent Government finaly accepting and recognize Mr. Taksin as influent political figure and factor? WOW!

He added the premier even agreed to face a censure debate as requested by the Opposition to ease political tension outside Parliament. Even agreed? Arrogant attitude of Deputy PM or just propaganda? It is duty of any PM in so delicate political processes as an impeachment is.

Suthep concluded by saying Pheu Thai should dedicate its time to prepare for the next election instead of taking to the streets. Pie-in- the-sky.

Deputy PM thinks no-confidence debate might bring some problems in national security but the PM thinks rally will not disrupt censure debate. So strange way of thinking.

Well, stepenwolf, you had your fun. Now some logic to it.

It's perfectly understandable in the Thai political situation for a deputy PM to ask k. Thaksin to refrain from interference. Why shouldn't he with the history of the last year in mind? K. Thaksin is seen as the real boss of PTP, he needs to give his approval to all and sunder. It means k. Suthep recognizes k. Thaksin in still meddling in internal Thai affairs, safely from abroad 'bring me back, boys, I have the solution to all your problems. I'll tell you at the appropriate time after'.

As with the protest of the last months the government tries to ensure peace and order. That's normal again, not panic.

The censure debate is again a regular returning happening. To avoid any suggestion of fear the PM hasn't dissolved the House yet, but gives the opposition party a chance to prove their points. Mind you Pol.Cap. Chalerm doesn't seem to be too confident, but maybe he only doesn't like k. Mingkhan.

Strange thinking indeed. It's the duty of the deputy PM to make sure there are no problems, doesn't mean he thinks there will be. He's just making sure there won't be.

Personally I wonder how peaceful the protesters will disband Sunday morning after the result of the censure motion is known ?

I think your viewpoint is acceptable for me, even i see some wind of change in this statement(s), reading between the lines, of course.

One thing have on your mind: logic doesn't work much here. Most accurate part in your thoughts is, as you said:"It's perfectly understandable in the Thai political situation". Yes, indeed it is THAI political situation.

PM thinks will be no disruption of censure debate, by the rally. He don't think(didn't say) what might be reaction among the protesters when they hear result of censure motion(as you think).

Me, personally, have no reason to wonder. One or two members of Cabinet will fail. Not all. Someone will be sacrificed in the name of peace. Political solution.

No one will "fail". If the red shirts PTP had any evidence of anything, they couldn't keep their mouth shut about it for this long.

:) perhaps you are right about their "skills" in politic but however i bet some one will be out of the game. One or 2 of them. PM knows in this moment that would be very clever to do so protesters will be quenched in their "thirst of blood". Some one will be given on plate. Meaningless figures and will be replaced from the people from same parties and no big deal. We will see. :)

If we can go on the previous censure debates, nothing will happen. With k. Chalerm wanting to be the last and stress all of k. Thaksin's achievements we have a clever politician, but Thaksinomics and Thaksinocracy are past their 'due by' date. I somehow don't think the last six hours of the debate will be a refute / re-emphasize, but more an opportunity to profile k. Thaksin, Lord and Saviour. Another reason I said before to wonder how the UDD protest will end Sunday morning. Should be very peacefully, none of the UDD leaders want to go back to that horrid jail where their health suffered so much ;)

Did you enjoy when you wrote this? Some fun for you?

Let me try to make you be serious about this matter.

Don't count on fear about jail. Just as by the way-those are out on bail as it was obvious that the prosecutors could not complete the case to charge them, so the court didn't want to hold them in custody endlessly as more and more, by time, all looks like politically motivated trick and political fight with rivals.

And the poor and silly is party on power in any country if base it's ruling on fear. I hope, as this party has a name democrat that they are not dictators. As you mentioned:"none of the UDD leaders want to go back to that horrid jail where their health suffered so much ;)i have just to say don't be sarcastic. Situation is for more serious thinking, not for jokes.

Reds will not make nothing as they didn't make nothing.(some idiots made it and we don't know those idiots belong(ed) to which side). it was dirty game and a trap for reds. What happened is long story but all together it is clear that they was not skilled in political struggling so all went wrong last time.

Previous no-confidence debate was kind of debacle not because PM and democrats were so skilled but because PTP was acting like amateurs for politic battles. Chances they missed to tore PM and democrats into pieces, were countless. PTP has no strategy in anything they do and that is giving such bad effects so dems can be on power forever with such opposition.

Lack of skills? Probably more lack of facts and details.

As for reds being trapped, correct. They felt for it after the verdict that k. Thaksin's billions would be confiscated. It's then that the UDD leaders started their agitation, ultimately leading to May 19th. Poor reds. Read Robert A.'s report, you're bound to agree with a lot there, it fits your state of mind.

PS I write what I think or know. Has nothing to do with fun, more with sharpening the mind :)
