Is it my imagination or have they changed the flow here?

I am sure northbound traffic continued moving at the same time the southbound lights were green and the filter for the right turn came in half a minute or so later.

During the past few days the traffic has tailed right back here and I have noticed that they are not filtering the traffic any more; it's red, then it's green. This is ridiculous as there's no reason that northbound and southbound traffic should not move at the same time.

Maybe it's been like this for ages and I just haven't noticed but more likely it's a needless tinkering with the system which is not working and hopefully it'll revert to what it was very soon.

I hate the ones at Big Buddha turn off.

Complete waste of time because everyone uses the next street and banks up the traffic.

I was going to start a thread on this as Mitch you are absolutely correct. They have changed & even during the middle of the day I have seen tailbacks past Promphan to the next lights. IMO they have done it so the very few people who make the right turn into the small soi just adjacent to the lights can do so safely. What they should do is put an island there so no one can make that right turn as it disrupts the flow both ways. There must be a committee who make decisions on how best to reduce the traffic flow in Phuket to increase the frustrations for the motorists. It started a few years back with the 4 way traffic lights in Kamala & can be witnessed by the new traffic lights on both Chao Fa's, U-turn lights on the airport road etc & now this. Wait until the schools reopen then the tailbacks will go all the way to Kajonkiet.

The idea of the new lights for safety reasons is fine but anyone who observes the lights at the Big Buddha junction will see the configuration is wrong & not truly safe anyway considering how many break the red lights. The other day I was on the Big Buddha soi waiting for the lights to change green & if looking back towards the circle it is a blind bend. Anyway, when the lights went green I started forward & lo & behold a car came flying through the red light totally unseen until the last moment. A motorcyclist taking off quickly would have been flattened. BTW there is only 10 seconds before the lights from the Buddha soi turn red.

After yesterday morning's tailback past the previous set of lights almost to the Welcome to Phuket sign, I am glad to say that this morning the lights had reverted back to normal. The filter was operational and there was no tailback.

Hopefully it will now stay this way.
