THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION IS CONCERNED OVER ELECTRICAL OUTLETS

The Minister of Education has ordered an inspection of safety standards as well as electricity outlets in schools, in order to ensure safety and reduce electrocution, following the recent flooding. He has asked technical schools to find a solution to the electric outlet problem.

Mr. Chaturon Chaisang (จาตุรนต์ ฉายแสง), the Minister of Education, referred to the safety standards for students as being followed up on in terms of control, and that sixteen decrees have been made on the issue. The minister has also cautioned schools to monitor the quality of their school campus, which may pose health hazards such as basketball hoops, and playground equipment. Mr. Chaturon has assigned Mr. Piyabut Cholvijarn (ปิยะบุตร ชลวิจารณ์), the assistant minister of education, the task of setting up a working committee by the end of this week, to look into the matter.

The Minister of Education added that, following inspections of many schools in flooded areas, it was observed that electricity outlets posed a health hazard, as many were affected by floodwater. He has asked that technical school students in the areas assist in laying down new electrical systems.

Might be a good idea to set the goal a little higher – how about eliminate electrocution instead of just reducing them? :o

At my school I had a class where the students had to speak using a microphone - they all had to put their shoes on before touching the mic so they wouldn't get zapped.

A couple of days ago the students had all moved their desks from one corner of the room which was under the air conditioner. I asked them why - it was because they were getting electric shocks from the floor, apparently caused by the air conditioner!!

I'm a bit worried that one of them is going to be fried in a class one day - or even worse, I will be.
