bbradsby
was at Bira last weekend, at the gokart track with my boy and his friend, and there were some very big dollar Ducatis at the car/bike track directly adjacent, including a Desmosedici... the owners were just posing & putting around the track - waiting for a TV crew in reality. I wanted to throw up... the karts are actually really fast and ripped up the track, with Rotax engines and flat slide carbs. bbradsby
i did. the kart i was on probably needed a mid speed jet cleaned. The engine was like a gun, either it was on or off, with very dicey fueling and a big hit when it lit... so mid-corner toward turn exits, as I fed in the gas from a maintenance throttle, it would just stutter, and then all at once light up in full power band. scary but a rush of adrenaline too. was surprised how much fun the karts were. til i did the kart equivalent of a high side in one turn - it power-slid, went sideways, then caught traction and launched into the grass at good speed. thank god for the ground hugging center of gravity. That's awesome and a bit disappointing at the same time. I was over at Bira not that long ago, but they said they didn't rent out karts directly - where did you rent? Was it expensive? Cheers

Cheers I didn't rent a kart - me and another dad who owns two karts went there with our boys... and acted like hooligan kids. good stuff... as a lifelong biker, I was surprised how much adrenaline was pumped out that day. Maybe the proprietor rents karts. go to birakart[dot]com for contact info.

witold
If Idon't have a moto or leathers, is my only option to pay for the very expensive TDs that provide that for $500-$1000? I have gloves, boots, back protector, helmet, but only textile suit... Would like to do a TD in Thailand, but at that sort of price Bira is not worth it to me. chunkylover53
How does everyone get there bikes to Bira? Is there any other option than Thai Postal service? (and not driving - Bangkok to Pattaya is such a boring drive)

Contact Graham at highsidetours.com, he has some ER6s at Bira that he rents out if the track is free... he doesn't book the track so costs should be less than previous full package prices... Enjoy, I'm working. Where are those pics from the BIRA race? Unfortunately I've not found a write up of the Round 5 Super Car Thailand racing last weekend but it sounds like it was a rough weekend for bikes at BIRA with the race red flagged due to multiple injury accidents. Found these pics of one spectacular crash on facebook: And Mickey Walker had a spectacular crash in qualifying on Saturday - Yet still went on to win on Sunday- Bravo Micky! newf
Oad #50 highsided while leading on the final lap of saturdays race and Mickey Walker crashed out on the 5th lap when he lost his brakes going into turn 1. Mickey went to the hospital later that day but was ok to race on sunday. Oad however ended up with a broken collar bone and bike that i think is beyond repair.Narve was unable to aviod Oad and he smashed against the left side of his fairing but he was able to keep the bike upright. He did have a swollen hand from the impact though.

What do the Thai guys do with totaled bikes? Part them out? Patch them up and sell them on? Hats off to Micky for getting back in the saddle and winning on Sunday!
