Mate of mine is flying from Tokyo to Phuket today. TG 671. 3 times a week from Narita. Direct. Non-stop. Very nice. But when he checked in he found that it was flying to BKK first.

I know flights to Japan may be affected by the unprecedented times there. But how much is going on with flight shuffling these days? Anyone else affected?

It is a mixed blessing for my mate. They have put him in Business for BKK>HKT.

Yeah I think anyone flying through there should expect such changes with no notice. When I flew out just after the quake, my connection was still scheduled and on time. Once I arrived my connecting flight had been canceled, or actually just re-named as I could tell by gate numbers my physical plane was there, but it was re-named to get people out that were stuck there since the quake. I spent 24 hours in the terminal then flew out later the next day.

My flight back to LOS in a couple weeks also has a layover in Narita. According to their website, American Airlines is giving travelers from the US the option to push back their travel as far as July 10th. I will wait a few more days before calling them and seeing about getting a different flight since I am not confident they are going to have the reactor situation solved by then, and I am not interested in pushing my flight back.
