Paying Utilities In Krabi

Featured Replies

Hello,

37-year-old American here. I'm about to rent a house for a year in Krabi. I'm renting a cluster/town house (many identical connected units). I'm curious if anyone has any info on paying/setting up water, electricity and telephone/internet service.

The house is internet-ready, and I will need to set up service in my name (leaning towards using 3BB). I'm not sure about water and electricity. Is it typical for water and electricity to be transfered to the rentor's name as well? I've been told to write down electric and water meter readings before I move in, which sounds like great adivce.

Any other info/adivce is appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott

Not sure about water but for electricity make sure you are only paying 3.5 bht per unit I know the ferang agents at least try to charge you double this I have seen 8 bht charged at some places

Usually the electricity and water bills are kept in the landlord's name.

As TaninThai said, this often leads to the landlord adding a surcharge.

This is a common practice in Thailand so not worth giving up your house for as the next landlord is likely to do the same.

Just make sure you know how much you will be paying before you sign the contract.

I am currently looking for a small place to rent in Phuket and have been quoted 5-7 baht for electricity and 100 - 150 baht for water, per month.

At these rates I would expect to pay 1,000 - 1,500 baht per month for electricity in a one bedroom apartment with one air con unit used every night.

The real water bill would probably be 25 - 50 baht per month.

Common practice to pay double for your electric

maybe if your a 2 week tourist but in the long term rentals I would not agree to these prices

Thank you TaninThai that is very helpful :)

Sent you pm.
