BANGKOK (NNT) -- Khao San Road in Bangkok is the most favored spot to celebrate Songkran in the view of foreign tourists, followed by Chiang Mai province and Silom Road, according to a recent survey by Bangkok University Research Institute (Bangkok Poll).

The survey was conducted with foreign tourists during 2 to 3 April 2011, on their attitude toward traveling in Bangkok. The findings showed 53.4% of the respondents were interested to celebrate the water-splashing festival of Songkran. 24.5% were not while the rest did not know anything about Songkran.

Asked for their destination to celebrate Songkran, 17.7% of the respondents wanted to go to Khao San Road in Bangkok. 12.9% preferred the northern province of Chiang Mai province while 7.8% favored Silom Road in Bangkok.

Road accidents and safety to lives and property are priority concerns among the respondents during the Songkran celebration with 35.7%, followed by bad traffic and violent water splashing with 15.5% and 12.2% respectively.

Asked what came to their thought first when talking about Bangkok, 25.2% of the respondents said they thought of the Grand Palace, followed by Khao San Road, Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram or Wat Pho, Siamese smile and hospitality of Thai people and Chao Phraya River with 9%, 8.6%, 7.3% and 5.0% respectively.

None of them wanted to celebrate it in Pattaya?

Its the best, not only you constantly get wet, but those same tourists also aim for the eyes of every bike rider and when one falls it usually results in huge celebration :bah:

watching Thai tv news tonight they showed a Russian woman claiming she had been robbed of 70,000 baht at Khao San Road today, said her purse was taken while she allowed someone to talc powder her face.

Never been there myself (I'll cope!), regardless, a large amount of cash to be carrying and a holiday ruined if it's true.
