Iran tests new homemade missile system

2011-04-17 03:40:53 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran successfully test-fired its latest air-defense missile system, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported Saturday.

Tehran's defense officials said the system, dubbed Sayyad 2, will be deployed across the country in the near future. Lieutenant Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base for Operations Colonel Abolfazl Farmahini announced that the hawk systems have undergone warm testing at Khondab nuclear facility near the Central city of Arak and successfully hit their targets.

The commander added that the test was aimed at assessing the level of preparedness of the defense systems deployed in the region to defend Iran's sensitive nuclear facilities. He stressed that the Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base conducts such tests regularly to promote the country's defensive capabilities.

Sayyad 2 is an upgraded version of the Sayyad 1, a two-staged air defense missile that is capable of destroying targets with low Radar Cross Section (RCS) at low and medium altitudes. The Sayyad 2, however, enjoys higher precision, range and destruction power compared with its previous version.

In January, Iran unveiled a new air defense plan, designed by the Air Defense Base. Officials said the Iranian Army would produce the tools, weapons and equipment that will be required to implement the plan during the five-year period.

Iran launched its arms development program during the 1980-88 armed conflict with Iraq. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles as well as radar-avoiding missiles and other high-tech weapons.

Nuclear energy is clean and green. Nothing to worry.

Problems start when someone plans to launch air strikes at these nuclear facilities. A pariah state like Israel even thinks about to 'nuke' Iran

Revealed: Israel plans nuclear strike on Iran

ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons.

Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources.

The attack would be the first with nuclear weapons since 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Israeli weapons would each have a force equivalent to one-fifteenth of the Hiroshima bomb.

So the answer is yes, it gives me a somehow warm and cuddly feeling if Iran has a defense system.

Thats interesting thinking there when the PROBLEMS REALLY START.

Iran has openly claimed a number of times its desire to wipe out Israel from the face of the earth, that includes all of it's over 6 million people of population

Israel has advised it will only strike the actual nuclear plant with 1/4 of a nuke power set to explode hundreds of meteres underground ONLY destroying the plant and not harming anyone or anything else.

So lets do the maths, shall werolleyes.gif

PS. do i need to post countless youtube clips and links to hundreds of interviews with Iran, so you do not even try to dispute the facts?

With what is going on in the world today and what has gone down in the past they have every right to be paranoid about defence.

However considering some of the statements made by the nutter in charge and the islam factor who knows when their defence could turn into attack.

Many glaring mistakes in your post Kuffki.

Iran has never claimed that they will kill 6 million Israelis. They have however claimed to remove the government of Israel. Although those that want Iranians to suffer nuclear genocide would beg to differ.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has in the past called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" and said on Friday it was on the way to being eliminated.

What is wrong with their nuclear program?

They want to hasten the Apocalypse because of their religious beliefs. :bah:

Seemingly so do many Christian Americans.............

Do they not ??

NO.

I have never heard of any Christians who wanted to start the Apocalypse early and especially by starting a World War on purpose which is what the leader of Iran wants to do and what his religion dictates.

I agree UG, but some of the enthusiasm of fundy Christian "end timers" towards unpleasant developments in the middle east can be rather disturbing. Sadly, Israel has so few good friends in the world these days that they have to tolerate the rather odd friendship of extremist right wing Christians who see in modern Israel the signs of their savior coming via yes the Apocalypse. That doesn't mean they are trying to make that happen (at least I hope not) but I get the strong feeling they are CHEERLEADING for it to hurry up already. Oh the rapture! Not as proactive as the charges against Iran, but still to my view, rather sick.

BTW, speaking of good friends of Israel, while of course the USA is the best national friend of Israel, I recently read that India is also a very good friend. That was rather surprising to hear.

The fact that some people are disturbed by the preparedness and determination of a sovereign nation to defend its territory and people are bewildering and disturbing. What is the agenda here?

There is saying that goes something like; every nation has an army on its soil, its own or somebody elses!

And , looking back just a few years, what are the odds that Iran will face an invasion in the next 2-5years? Human rights anyone? ;)

If they don't prepare there defenses asap they are doomed. The rockets they tested are, as I understand, an improved version of the old USSR S-75 system. Although they did a good job with U-2s and B-52s something better will be required today and hopefully the Russians will provide the S-300 system before the show begins.

The better question is what's the agenda of Iran? Clearly there is ample evidence that at the very least they are actively working to violently destroy the Jewish state of Israel. They are already involved in proxy wars. That doesn't necessarily mean they want to murder every last person there (lots of non-Jewish Israeli citizens there), but it's not nothing either.

Some Israelis call Iran an existential threat. They may be correct. Iranians generally don't call Israel an existential threat to them. Israel may threaten their nuclear program and resist Iran's proxy wars; that's it.

Some folks are just not tolerant of rogue dictatorships that do not allow their own citizens any freedom and threaten everyone around them while developing Nuclear weapons. :whistling:

hmmm, funny in Iran those who protest get shot, while in Israel are free to protest, Gays are free to live in Israel, while in Iran its forbidden. so which one is under the dictatorship?blink.gif

Israel has been attacked by 4 nations twice, while Iran is the one doing all the attacking if not personally then by proxy.

i guess Uly after all WAS describing Iran

Ever ask yourself how it comes that the Zio-supremacists have so few good friends and that these friends are the odd extremist right wing Christians?

They are also the reason why Iran needs that defense system.

The O/T news article clearly states Iran was upgrading its missile defences for it's nuclear facilities. Such a precaution would not be necessary if the IAEA were allowed full access to confirm Iran was not trying to develop weapons capability. I suspect Ahmedinajad wants a war more than anything and any newsflow from Iran will be designed to encourage a preemptive strike on themselves rather than discourage it; Such reasoning may seem bizarre viewed from the standpoint of a secular democracy, but for an Islamic faschist holocaust denier mutually assured destruction is not the same deterrent as it was during the cold war.
