Anyone Just Told 3Bb To Chuck It And Refused To Pay?

I just got 3BB 12m/1m ADSL service here in Chiang Mai (about 6 blocks south of Pantip Plaza) and to say that it is terrible service would be giving it too much credit. I could handle the slow d/l speeds (it has never been more than 6.1M/120kb) but the continual dropping of the connections is really more trouble than it is worth. I spend more time rebooting than being online. I have a CAT CDMA Mifi that is more reliable than the 3BB service. Even with the new TP-Link TD-W8960N modem/router, the problem didn't improve.

So, the question I have is what will 3BB do if I take their router back to them and tell them I can't pay for service that I am not getting? Back in the US, it would be no problem to do that. Of course, TIT.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks

I'd get an 3bb engineer to your place before doing that, and demonstrate how shit it is. Mention that if the engineer can't fix it you'll be canceling.

Then take the router back and explain that there was nothing the engineer could do so you'll be canceling the contract.. Shouldn't be a problem

First, insist on a 3BB tech coming to your place and checking out the connection. What's your signal / noise?

I had a really bad 3BB connection and for a month or more I thought it's due to the old cabling in the house. When the 3BB tech finally showed up, he put a test line directly from the pole in front of my house to the modem - and the connection was still crap! So he went down the road and fixed something somewhere down the line, and I had a perfect connection again.

As for stopping to pay - they're hardly going to sue you in court... if you make enough of a fuss they'll probably accept the modem back. Whether it's worth fighting over the 1000 - 2000 baht cancellation fee is another story. IMO it isn't.

Check your line quality by checking the line "sync speed", "SNR", and "Attenuation" through your modem's setup memus. Do a search on TV as there are plenty of posts on this subject and in many cases it's just a bad phone/DSL line which can be fixed by 3BB if the wiring problem is outside your residence. If the problem is wiring within your residence, 3BB may not be able to help you there or the tech would charge a few hundred baht if an easy fix. Your poor download/upload speeds sure sound like a funky line. If it's a funky line, the line problem is most likely outside your residence and located at.one of numerous possible connection points (i.e., junction boxes) between your residence and the 3BB central station/DSLAM bank.

Usually you can cancel within the 12 month contract period by returning/paying for any freebies such as a free modem/router, free line installation, etc., plus an additional approx 1000 baht fee.

Thanks for the information and ideas all. I'll give 3BB a call and let them send out someone to check the lines. If they can't work it out, I'll pay the cancellation fee and just go back to using the CAT CDMA Mifi. At least it is dependable.

Thanks again.
