Neeranam
I've been in Thailand for 13 years and am out of touch with new Western music. I got into some things like Gorillaz, which I like but nothing else really apart from thai music. I don't have UBC so don't get MTV. Can anyone recommend any new British/US/European/OZ music? I was into Punk, Reggae, Alternative, some rock like Led Zep, Nirvana, new wave, Smiths, cramps, Iggy Pop, Bowie, Floyd, Stones etc. Oasis were all right. Any good alternative sounds? I don't want to playing the same old music in 10 years time. Cheers Edited October 2, 2005 by Neeranam
chownah
Try KEXP at: http://www.kexp.org/home.asp?noflash=false Commercial free radio on the web.....they have regular show at set hours....alternative...rock a billie...blues....jazz....soul....world music....etc. I haven't listened to it for awhile 'cause I've been listening to mostly jazz and blues on KPLU at: http://www.kplu.org/whatson/indexlisten.cgi Again this is commercial free radio on the web. If you like classical then you can do KING at: http://www.king.org/listen/index.aspx Unfortunately this one does have commercials. None of these require that you register or anything like that and I get all of them on a dial up modem but I'm satisfied with minimal quality... Sarpedon
I wouldnt say they were massive but they are well known in the UK...at least among my friends...but they do know about all kinds of obscure music. The Joy Zipper album is great though. I really like it.

chonabot
If you can get Radio 1 from the web over there you might try listening to Zane Lowe every day , he has a 2 hour show from 1900-2100 and plays pretty much the best music in the world today. New stuff with the odd oldie thrown in. A decent new band......................Rooster.

fatter than harry
ColdPlay are aces, not on your own though, and not if you've just lost a pet Scissor Sisters have some top tunes ('Laura' springs to mind) but I'm not as in love with them as I am with Jet I'm worried about my infatuation with them, I still love the 'Get Born' album like a child (of which I don't have) You want to try and download the new album from William Shatner 'Has Been' My mate played it to me and it should have been diabolical but it's a shinning star of an album and gets my highest rating of two thumbs. The Strokes kick ass, The Streets is my mates cousin, so I like him too. Zero 7 are also a firm favourite, but my most favourite album right now is Alisson Krauss and Union Station - Live. If you liked the film 'Oh brother where art thou' you'll love this as the backing band are the soggy bottom boys, including the fella that did the voice over for George Clooney. Alisson Krauss has the voice of 3 angels sellotaped together. Yes it'll be in the country section but it's Bluegrassy, cool country, not Billy Ray Sirus cock monkey country. Yeeeehar

Shed Seven. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> F.ucking ###### dude, I haven't heard of them for ages (12 yrs since?), Dolphin was the album weren't it? Only one good song from that lot anyways. If you like that old skool stuff then a bit of James is the trick. Four Tet, Elliot Smith, Ladytron and Mylod current recommendations. Libertines been the best band about in recent years I reckon, none of this wanky coldplay stuff.
