gravion Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Just tellin ppl what to do, stating the obvious and earning credits for hard working ppl who gets paid like 1/5? what are your thoughts?
StreetCowboy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 You're obviously one of my staff... Just kidding; none of my staff get paid as much as a fifth of what I get; but then, maybe you didn't know how much I was getting... SC
happyrobert Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 My thoughts? They are lacking psychological morbidity.
mstribling Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Just tellin ppl what to do, stating the obvious and earning credits for hard working ppl who gets paid like 1/5? what are your thoughts? That pretty much sums it up. It's why it's called "bossing" people around.
Beetlejuice Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I thought a managers main role in Thailand was to avoid his/her customers at all costs. Any of you that have tried to see a manager when you are not satisfied with a service or have a complaint will know exactly what I mean.
mstribling Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Just watch a few episodes of The Office ( either version is OK). It will explain it well.
gregb Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 stating the obvious and earning credits for hard working ppl who gets paid like 1/5 I served my time in the trenches, where I was the guy getting stepped on for next to nothing. I learned alot during my career about how to take credit for other people's work. That's an incredibly valuable skill, which I am helping those under my tutelage to master.

Any of you that have tried to see a manager when you are not satisfied with a service or have a complaint will know exactly what I mean. When your personal and corporate visions are aligned with performance excellence and delighting your customers, it is a joy to meet them! I learnt a long time ago, when I was but an apprentice 'scourge of the seas', that consultants have more loyalty to their customers than their employers.... SC

onionluke Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 If the manager is overworked , this may be illusory or the result of reaching his own level of incompetency , he will employ two subordinates to do his work . Parkinson's Law .
smokie36 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Many of my family are self employed...they seem to have awarded themselves holidays lasting for decades. I wish I had the same sense of purpose.
IanForbes Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Ideally, managers hire competent staff and make sure they are doing their jobs efficiently with the least amount of hassle. They often take care of purchasing materials so the company runs efficiently and the staff have what they need instead of waiting around doing nothing. Managers search out other markets so the company can grow and doesn't stagnate. Managers keep the staff happy, and solve problems beween the staff members. But like everything, there are good managers and poor ones. If the owner of the company has any smarts they get rid of poor managers, just as good managers get rid of poor staff.
joe552 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 My initial thought was - if you have to ask the question, you're not up to being a manager! When I reached a managerial level (finally) it most often felt like being a referee between staff, owners and customers. Good people skills were the main requirement (I'm talking about the hospitality industry - don't know about others).

Or better yet, cast that suppressive system away and work for yourself. Self-employment, for a better term, has it's upsides.
