webfact
Statement by UK Prime Minister Cameron on Bin Laden's death 2011-05-02 11:45:15 GMT+7 (ICT) LONDON (BNO NEWS) -- British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday morning released the following statement on the death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. "The news that Osama Bin Laden is dead will bring great relief to people across the world. Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the worst terrorist atrocities the world has seen - for 9/11 and for so many attacks, which have cost thousands of lives, many of them British. It is a great success that he has been found and will no longer be able to pursue his campaign of global terror. This is a time to remember all those murdered by Osama Bin Laden, and all those who lost loved ones. It is also a time too to thank all those who work round the clock to keep us safe from terrorism. Their work will continue. I congratulate President Obama and those responsible for carrying out this operation." -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-05-

craigt3365
The U.S. Department of State alerts U.S. citizens traveling and residing abroad to the enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counter-terrorism activity in Pakistan. Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations. U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. This Travel Alert expires August 1, 2011. U.S. Embassy operations in affected areas will continue to the extent possible under the constraints of any evolving security situation. U.S. government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. Embassies and Consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. U.S. citizens abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Media coverage of local events may cause family and friends to become concerned for their loved ones traveling and residing abroad. We urge U.S. citizens to keep in regular contact with family and friends. U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), to receive the latest travel updates and information and to obtain updated information on travel and security issues. U.S. citizens without Internet access may register directly with the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency. Travel information is also available at www.travel.state.gov. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. For information on "What the Department of State Can and Can't Do in a Crisis," please visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs' website at www.travel.state.gov. For further information on specific countries, U.S. citizens should consult the Country Specific Information pages, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings at www.travel.state.gov as well as the Worldwide Caution. FOODLOVER
sadly the TV shows the level to which the general public in US has sunk to and the extent of their ignorance. Rejoicing in anyone's death is unpleasant, and the fact that they don't realise how insignificant this is - apart from the inevitable "revenge" attacks shows how poorly the Us have handled affairs before and since 9/11. The fat that this date is considered the beginning by many again shows a lack of understanding. It looked for a few days after 9/11 that the US might have asked "WHY?" but in the end they chose a course of revenge and lowered themselves to the level of any crank who thinks that violence can bring and end to violence. I guess you don't remember the parties the murderers threw. If you dont like it turn it. We have freedom of expression. We protect peoples opinions as well." The fact this date is considered the beginning" by whom, you? Based on all your covert intelligence.. They blew up thousands of women children and innocents. People diving out of windows to there certain deaths while the rest of us Americans watched in horror. Let your children die in this way, how would you feel? How would you feel when the man who so cowardly shielded himself with more civilians was finally brought to justice? We are treating his body with respect to the muslim religion. To say we lowered our selves to his level is preposterous! You kind sir take your head out ass and smell the fresh air as we are still rebuilding our families and the towers! We are not rejoicing in his death but in finally getting closure after all these years. I'm sure where you live in your little safety net everything is ok but when there is a big problem, in the real world peoples hands have to get dirty. And the United States of America is there. chuckd
This from ABC News. _______________________________________________________ Osama Bin Laden was killed not by a drone strike, but up close during a firefight with U.S. troops. He was not living in a cave when he died, but in a million-dollar mansion with seven-foot walls just 40 miles from the Pakistani capital, where U.S. forces killed him Sunday. The U.S. had been monitoring the compound in Abbottabad for months after receiving a tip in August that Bin Laden might be seeking shelter there. He had long been said to be in the mountainous region along the Afghanistan, Pakistan border, hiding in a cave as the U.S. sought to kill him with drone strikes from above. Instead, he was in a house eight times larger than its neighbors, with a seven-foot wall and valued at $1 million. The house had no phone of television and the residents burned their trash. The house had high windows and few points of access, and U.S. officials concluded it had been built to hide someone. yellow1red1
I Good - but wont make one bit of difference. There are hundreds willing to 'martyr' themselves in his place. Don't agree...Nazism pretty much died along with HItler...Italian and Spanish racism with Musolini and Franco. Individuals in history make a difference. and 'our' team no longer has the Bush's, Rumsfeld, Kissinger, Rowe,,, though Trump and palin could rartchet up tensions
a99az
Why now? Could it be that the US feel that it's safe to tidy up a few lose ends while the Arab world is having a bad day. Hard to believe that this is all coincidence and not part of some mad plan to undermine the Middle east and control the worlds oil. I know it sounds far fetched, but in light of whats been going on it makes you wonder. As for it being good or bad, only time will tell, but hold on tight I think we could all be in for a bumpy ride. LuckyLew
Obviously president Obama is now officially in election campaign mode. I wouldnt be surprised if Osama bin ladan was killed ages ago.Keep him on ice and wheel him out on cue. He was killed in 2001 & you will never see a body 100% guaranteed I agree, I have thought that all along. Not likely ... surely terrorist #1 GWB would have announced it before leaving office ... would have been a great legacy # 1 knocks off #
