I Have The Exact Address, Now How To Find This Place?

Featured Replies

So this eatery is supposed to serve up a great Massaman, and I live right next to it. But how the hell do I find it? I have no idea what the numbers in the address is telling me. This is more about learning the address system in Bangkok than finding the restaurant, although the two are obviously intertwined. The address in question:Baan Ajarn Restaurant, 107/7-8 Soi Rangnam Rd.

According to http://wikimapia.org...jarn-Restaurant the lat long is Coordinates: 13°45'33"N 100°32'28"E

Plugging that into Google maps http://maps.google.c...&z=16&t=h&hl=en

shows you the map of the area with a couple of landmarks.

To simplify just go to http://maps.google.c...&z=16&t=h&hl=en

You will have to zoom in to maximum and select maps on upper right.

Don't quote me, but the numbers are not easy to fathom... They number properties in the order they were built, so there is no physical logic. The only thing I've found is that the first number (107) seems to group similar aged properties in the same Soi or local area, and the second number is the unique property number, but not necessarily sequenced. So you may find a cluster of properties with the prefix 107/ and then you can look for the 7-8 and hope you are lucky! It looks like this is two adjoining properties, no 7 and no 8. Finding addresses like this is a frustrating exercise, and generally requires a telephone number and several landmarks. (sometimes the local motorcycle taxis are the best bet if you can describe the place you are looking for, or have it written in Thai). Someone may be able to offer a better explanation, but that's my experience and understanding.

The system was land plot numbers first and then house number. So you could have 107/87 next to 66/32. But Bangkok has changed most to normal consecutive Road/Soi numbers within the last several years (but many people have not relabeled yet).

This from MapMagic

Cool... They even show the "Picknic / Picnic Hotel", a really run down looking "curtain" hotel.

You pay (sponsorship to mapmagic), you "get to play"!

Time to "upgrayed*" my mapmagic...

Cheers BuckarooBanzai, thanks to you I found the place. They didn't have Massaman, but served up one of the best red duck curries I've had in Thailand. So well worth looking for.

I'm still just as confused about the numbers though. I thought some of the numbers ment it was in a soi, but it was facing the main street. Oh well...
