I regularly read http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ but can't get access to it now. I just get the 'Oops! This link appears to be...' message. I can access other sections such as 'vans' but I can't get into the home page or anything to do with cars or bikes. Not sure why TOT would block it.

Can anyone else access it?

Thanks.

Thanks for this link. I tried it and it says it's me. I have tried proxy and it works there too. I've tried 4 computers in the house they all have the same problem. Any suggestions as to why I cannot access it? All my regular sites are working fine so I'm a bit lost as to why problems with only one web-site.

Thanks

Could be many things, routing or DNS comes to mind. You could try changing to Google DNS or Open DNS (easy to set up, google for details). If that doesn't fix the problem you could try setting up ExpatShield VPN (also easy, google again).

I had a similar problem today in reaching www.tsp.gov in the U.S. Never had a problem before in reaching this site...and wasn't having any problems in reaching any other web sites I tried today. I'm on TOT and have my primary DNS set to a TOT DNS and my backup to one of the Google DNS.'s I changed by primary DNS also to a GoogleDNS but it didn't help. Cleared my cache; didn't help. Closed/reopened the browser; didn't help. Turned the laptop off and on; didn't help. Used the the DownForeverOneOrJustME web site and it said it was just me with the problem. So, I then turned my ADSL modem off for about 15 seconds; turned it back on and I can now reach the tsp.gov web site.

I use unblockus DNS so as to watch BBC etc and over the last week it has stopped working.

btw strongvpn is still working fine but its a completely different setup to unblockus.

I am also having problems accessing some websites, with "tcp error pages coming up" and theres nothing wrong with my router or system this problem has only just started and on both of my PC's in my room.

I have CSLox info SME 8mb package which basically goes thru True (approx 6500bt per month)

Heres the thing, email from unblockus figure it out for yourself...

nb I have deleted my static IP mentioned below in the email for obvious reasons.

One other thing that I would like to add:

I did a tracert ping test for Google and guess what it returned an error code 5 and error code 31 on a ping test this is unheard of, however i tried again 10 min later and the ping test was working fine, WEIRD things a happening in Thailand right now!

I'm not sure what's going on with your system, but it definitely look like transparent proxy OR your router has extra DNS field, which points to "wrong" DNS server. You can call your provider to check if they know anything about transparent proxies, but they may not tell even if they do. It's hard to tell why it happens, some providers want to cut costs, others tell stories about some government regulations. Largest provider in Singapore (SingTel) have it enabled all the time. Here is why I think this is a proxy OR incorrect DNS setup: 1. We have two different IP's for the same host name check.unblock-us.com: 184.106.242.193 is published on "standard" DNS servers and 184.106.248.229 on "ours" 2. You're connecting to our system from ***.***.***.***, which is probably your permanent IP with this provider. 3. At 20:17:05 GMT there was DNS query from your IP on our DNS asking about check.unblock-us.com (our "check service" page) and our DNS immediately returned 184.106.248.229 as required. 4. At 20:17:07 GMT your browser connected to 184.106.242.193, i.e. "standard" IP, which should never happen if it was using our DNS response. This means that either a transparent proxy uses "standard" DNS server OR your computer (at least occasionally) resolves IP's at "standard" DNS server. In both cases you'll get the same symptoms.

All Thai ISP's to my knowledge use transparent proxies, that shouldn't prevent the system from working. I used it with 3BB who use transparent proxy and had no problem.

You don't say where you enter the dns servers. If you entered them in your router, try instead entering them in your PC and see if that helps.

No Thailand has never used Trans Proxies if they had have been the unblockus service would never have worked in the first place (this is straight from the horses mouth see email below)

I have tried changing DNS on the router and on the PC still not working, dont forget it WAS working fine until about the start of May so why not now?

Thailand may have Trans Proxies in place but they do not enable them and it looks as though they are now to cut costs and save much needed bandwidth.

Email from UnblockUs

For now, if there is indeed an external transparent proxy, then you won't be

able to get through. We're working on alternative solution, but it's too

early to tell when it will be available.

I have a problem connecting many sites, not dirty ones by any way.Only when I enter the True proxy details in my lan settings I can access them right away.Does this mean that big brother want to know what I'm looking up on the web?

Really, this is a pain in the a**se since I regullary have several tabs open at the same time with one or two secure sites included and they will not accept login through a proxy while the other ones I can't access if not using a proxy.

Believe what you like, it's a known fact that most ISP's in Thailand use transparent proxies, regardless of what unblockus say.

Search this forum, you will see it has been discussed often before.

Not sure which part of Phil's comments you are saying is incorrect. He stated that most ISPs do use transparent proxies and your above statement verifies True is using them. I know the university where I work uses them but seems 3BB doesn't, at least that I can detect.

Transparent proxies are used as traffic cops and is quite common so not sure why unblockus are making statements like that. On my 3BB connection I can access both the problem sites above. Will have to wait until I get to the university tomorrow to check it through the university transparent proxy.

In my experience 3BB use transparent caching proxy servers here in Pattaya. I ran a webdesign company for 3 years and we regularly had problems with cache updates on the proxy servers. We'd upload changes but sometime they wouldn't show, and it wasn't due to browser cache, as we checked with direct port 80 telnet connections. Only after some hours would the content actually refresh.

same happens to me from time to time. But on different sites. Getting a new IP fixes the problem. ToT Pattaya

Btw, sometimes I can't reach any site, as TOT is trying to redirect me to something like "tot.adslutilities.co.th" . A new IP fixes this too..

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. All the DNS info seemed a bit too much effort for 1 website (not too technically minded) so I simply switched to a spare router I have and that sorted it.

Thanks again.

I have not been able to reach the "www.tsp.gov" website for about a week also. Turning off my modem did nothing. My GF's computer can not reach the website. I use Firefox and tried to get access with IE and still no good. I've searched the internet for anything that may have happened recently, but find nothing. One thing seems to be clear...the browser is not resolving the website name so something may be wrong with whatever DNS server my browser/service provider is connecting to. I also tried using the raw IP address to access the site and I get the same result..."waiting", then "the connection was reset" from Firefox.

I used to go on Opencart.com for exchange with the developers but since start of May I can't anymore.... I am using True as ISP. Guess here there's always restriction everywhere.

Edit: I just tried a free VPN service provider, I can now access Opencart.com

More of a routing issue rather than an intentional block. You can however, access the site using True proxy:

proxy.asianet.co.th:8080

You are not on your own here either, why would True block this site? Even the IP address 70.86.153.83 is blocked, but as you say a vpn shows it is working fine.

Currently too many sites need to be entered through the True proxy,I have the experience that it are mostly forums that can't accessed without the proxy.

Does that mean that they want to read with us over our shoulder?

^ I switch back and forth between 'direct connection' and the True proxy server. Firefox users install the QuickProxy add-on to turn the proxy on and off with a single click.

Note: FF4 users need to enable the Add-on Bar to use QuickProxy.

Alternatively, install the Status-4-Evar add-on to restore the old status bar.
