Anyone got experiance from this phone?

Thinking of reevaluating my choice of phone, was looking to get the SGSII when available but getting tired of waiting really, need a new phone asap and perhaps the Cooper might be it? Saw it in my local Samsung store for 10 000 bath.

I have some experience with this model; several friends/family members have it. I think it is one of the best mid-range Android phones available here. However it does not support 850 Mhz 3G (True). It is extremely popular here, but it is vastly different from the SGS2, not even close. Think Vios v. GT-R.

You were hot on the LG Optimus 2; it's available, why not jump on that?

Ya, i really wanted the LG 2X for some time, but reading the XDA forum and a Swedish Android forum, its like reading a LG Support Forum. So many problems, and so bad battery life.

No coincidence that I happen to see this thread right before I left bangkok.

Pros: solid battery management, good size screen, android 2.2, 5mp camera w/ flash.

I've taken hundreds of pictures. I play Live Holdem pro for hours, listen to audiobooks, You're thai mate will love the keyboard, and the ability to switch between multiple languages on the spacebar. I've had very little lag issues with programs and multitasking. Have not tested watching videos, though. It's a well designed phone and I like the way it handles calls with the native dialer and you can integrate skype/ voip software no problems.

Biggest drawback: no 850 mhz 3G band. That means no True-3G. So you'd have to purchase a separate truemove MiFi spot and use wifi to connect.

If you allow wifi to sleep when phone sleeps, it can be tricky to re-activate wifi properly when you wake up phone. You can disable wifi sleeping in the wireless networks wifi advanced settings. There have been some rare occassions where the 2g network will be unavailable. But if you go into wireless settings, and go to either "automatically select preferred network" or manual selection", it will pop up again.

You can pioneer the Wellcom A99. Or the Acer Liquid Metal. The metal may cost you an extra 2000 baht. I'm sure lomatopo will add his two cents.

Bought one last week as my 3 year old G1 went to the electronic heaven in the sky.

Nice midrange phone, as one poster put it. I have some apps on there that did not work on my old G1. Angry birds works like a charm. The flash is ok, but it is so bright and lasts a long time before it takes a photo. Real negative there. Like a flashlight on before it clicks the pic.

Browsing is ok, added an apn on off widget, an android systems settings and file reader. Nice little screen, but not bright enough for me, especially after looking at the Samsung GS next to it, but 8k cheaper, so I got it instead. No lag while going to other windows and folder.

But once the SG2 comes out, this one goes to my lovely wife.

I agree. the flash takes too long, and people often blink by the time the shutter clicks.

But I think it will be a tossup between SG2 and the Motorola Atrix. But I think the SG2 is going to steal the show, unless the iPad2 comes out. 27000 baht is really pushing my budget for a phone.

if you have not bought a phone yet, the thailandmobileexpo.com Hi End will have some of the "older" (6 months) android phones cheaper. The Acer Liquid Metal will be 7900. That's almost 1/2 of the original price. It has virtually all the same specs as the galaxy cooper, but with 850 mhz radio and looks a little classier.

And according to my GF translation, no contest required. Only while supplies last. The first expo had all these contests to get the special deals. They'll have to discount the old phones to make room for the new phone.

I'm planning on attending early the first day. If you want, i can pick something up for you.

I know this is an older thread but i just noticed that the Galaxy cooper is now available in 850-2100mhz from DTAC...

I wonder if it's like the Galaxy s where you can 'turn on" the 850mhz in the menu.

Interesting. although samsung has released a new wave of galaxy series phones by now, havent they?

Anyway other than a minor problem every once in a while where the phone will shut off or not charge (in which re-seating the battery fixes), the galaxy cooper is solid. The mobile hotspot worked extremely well here and in Malaysia, as many guesthouses "free wifi" in penang was suspect. But you get what you pay for.

Certainly the price may have come down by now. 8900 or 7900.

Actually Samsung haven't released any new lower end phones at least i haven't seen them)

But with the recent price reductions i think some are on the way.
