Running Shoes

my last pair i bought at a nike shop

by all the factory outlet shops

near suk and pat thai

i even found some water proof running shoes

at another shop, they were north face

but they didn't fit right or feel comfortable

i was surprised how the nikes

started to fall apart so easily

someone told me they were knock offs

(even at the nike shop?)

anyway i am looking again

i used to buy new balance in the states

water proof trail shoes

suburb for every kind of running and walking

with waterproof gortex which really makes a difference

i wouldn't even mind some cheap shoe

if they are cushy and feel comfortable

easy and cheap to replace if they fall apart

a while back i saw some in the basement of tuk com

but i wasn't shopping then

so any info, ideas, suggestions?

thank you in advance

I also have the same suspicion and unsatisfactory experiences with buying nike in Asia.

I bought running shoes in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and also S'pore.

They all fell apart only after 2 years.

Each pair costs in excess of 150 usd.

However, the same nike bought in the u.s. would normally last me around 4 yrs.

Yes, banging it five days a week, rain or snow.

I got the gut feeling that nike is pushing and selling its B grade shoes in Asia.

Any other runners with nike purchased in Asia around, pls? :ermm:

I am of the opinion that it's the tropical conditions here. My Nike's gave me terrible problems so this time I went for Adidas, <deleted> Yahoooooo. I also work them out 7 days a week, I have to say these have to be the best runners I have worn. Previously I had Mizuno's , saucony. The outlet mail retail I believe sells old dated lines, not seconds. So like anything left on the shelf, especially in these hot, wet conditions I think this is the problem. Anyhow for what its worth, after hours on Google I have convinced myself the next ones' will be Asics, check the link.

I found the best range, by far, and price @ sports world Bkk. The adidas Pattaya around 7,500 Bkk 6,250 . Good luck

Check out Bata (shops all over town, for example Carrefour). They have their own brand shoes just like the one you linked to (Asics). Quality on par with the brand names but prices around 700-1000 baht.

You do know it only cost a few bucks to produce even the "best quality brand name shoes" right? The high cost of the brand name shoes are mainly down to the advertisement and sponsor deals they strike up to build their brand.

Phil, thanks for the editing, it did look ugly.

I have no idea about the production cost of runners, but in the cosmetic/toiletries it's that way . i used to manufacture a range skin care products and import to Bkk. It cost 30-50 to make a jar 50 -75 gms, high quality day/night creme, packaging 200-300 baht, retail margins, supermarkets. 15 - 20% pharmacy, specialist stores 100 - 300% markup.

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks folks

i would love to get those new balance waterproof trail shoes

but probably a hopeless cause in pattaya

by now there must be another brand with a similar shoe

not expecting much here though

i want to try on the bata shoe

i am looking for bata shops in pattaya

to find the nearest one to me

is there more than one in pattaya?

can anyone confirm there is one at carrefore pat klang?

this site shows 4 bata shops in pattaya

all in good proximity for me

http://www.farangfriendly.com/Shoe-Shops/Pattaya/

can anyone confirm if they are all still in operation?

will there be any difficulty finding a size 11 / 45 ?

the other thing though i can live with

but annoying

is the new designs and colors

trying to find a plain black runner is near impossible

dark and simple and lo key

white is the worst as it gets the most dirty

i use mine everywhere

for comfort

nike, never again

very informative and helpful responses

wish that was always the case here on TV

With numerous sets of quality footwear bought in UK, I have found that the glue used on the soles just rots after 18/24 months here and eventually all the force is taken by the stitching and they fall apart.

There are Bata shops at least in Carrefour, Tukcom (basement) and Central that I know of. Your website says they are also in Royal Garden, Avenue and Big C.

that must be the place i saw runners a long time ago

i even mentioned that in my op

so if you are correct

the website managed to leave out quite a few spots

someone else please confirm bata open in tukcom

if i recall correctly this was a small shop near the escalator in the basement

but it has been a long time since i went

I currently have 2 pr of NB running trainers. One pr of 1224's I've had about 18 months and a newer pr of 740's. Both were purchased in the big sports shop on the first floor of the Central Pattaya centre (Beach Rd end). I take a UK 11.5 / 12, US 13 and the choice is pretty limited for these 'clown shoe' sizes.

I run almost every day for between 40-60 mins and although the 1224's are looking a bit knackered, I'm happy with them. They weren't cheap though and I would be surprised if they were knock-offs. I'm a fairly big runner and have had trouble with cheaper and less supportive makes of trainers. These NB shoes have been the best running shoes I have bought and I'll be a repeat customer.

Yes, NB mostly are great stuff like most MB.

Most of the MB owners are absolutely delighted with their vehicles....

like a dozen of our immediately family members....

of course, until one day, Tiffata, one of their daughters in law drives them around in an old Rolls.... :D
