EVERY DEPARTMENT WILL COME UP WITH DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR SOUTHERN PROVINCES BEFORE DECEMBER

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA (ทักษิณ ชินวัตร) assigned all government agencies yesterday to draft individual development plans for solving the southern unrest. The plans are expected to be reviewed and implemented by January next year.

Government spokesperson, Dr. SURAPONG SUEBWONGLEE (สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี), reflected on the resolutions of the roving Cabinet meeting in KALASIN (กาฬสินธุ์) Province. He stated that Prime Minister THAKSIN has assigned all government agencies to prepare development plans for the threee southernmost provinces. For instance, the Ministry of Transport would oversee road and rail links to the South, while the Ministry of Industry would manage an Islamic food promotion campaign. The proposed strategies will be passed on to Deputy Prime Minister CHITCHAI WANNASATHIT (ชิดชัย วรรณสถิตย์) by December 15th at the latest. The plans would then be proposed at the pending Cabinet meeting.

As for the flood crisis that has swept the North and Northeastern regions, the Prime Minister has assigned concerned ministers to evaluate long-term solutions to prevent future floods during this time of the year.
