Former Egyptian President Mubarak remanded in custody for another 15 days

CAIRO, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- Prosecutors on Tuesday extended the detention of former President Hosni Mubarak for another 15 days after questioning him earlier, the al-Ahram newspaper reported.

A prosecution team arrived to the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital where the former leader is hospitalized. They questioned him over the investigation into a deadly crackdown on protesters and corruption.

Mubarak has been under arrest in a hospital in the Red Sea town of Sharm el-Sheikh since suffering a minor heart attack on April 12. The questioning session was also attended by his lawyer Farid El Deeb.

Also on Tuesday, Prosecutor-General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud extended the detention of Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, for another 15 days pending further investigation into charges against them.

Alaa and Gamal Mubarak are accused of profiteering, wasting public funds and illegally accumulating wealth. The two brothers were imprisoned in south Cairo for the duration of the investigation.

The 82-year-old ousted president is accused of ordering the killing of protesters in Tahrir Square during the January 25 Revolution as well as many abuse of power and illicit profiteering counts.

Mubarak ruled Egypt in a 30-year-long regime which began in 1981. He stepped down this year after weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights.

Good, they're all guilty as sin. Mubarak was super strong man for 30 years, now he's playing the game (so common among former dictators worldwide) of being too sick to zip up his own fly. I bet he sorely wished he and his corrupt-to-the-core family had pulled a Thaksin when they had the chance.

Sorry, I had to add this: If/when Thaksin is returned to Thailand and (if Phue Thai is not at the helm) he's compelled to face justice, he will pretend he's too infirm to participate.

BTW, what happened to Saxena? Last we heard, he was playing the same game, (of being too weak to face justice) - what's the latest on his court proceedings, of did he simply pay his way out (?), as so often happens when rich people get cornered.

update: I just did a search for 'saxena' on T.Visa and there were no search results.A google search for 'saxena thailand' shows the most recent mention of him in the news is Oct 2009 - that's a year and a half ago! Proof that Thais have short attention spans. Once a big story is done with its initial 'splash' - then it's boring, and time to go on to more important things, like banning spaghetti straps or too-tight shirts for college girls.

There are plenty Thaksin topics at Thaivisa.

A google search tells you something about the attention spans of Thais. what kind of cultural expert are you?
