NOWSHERA, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- An explosion on Tuesday killed two people and injured at least nine more outside a court in central Pakistan, the APP news agency reported.

An explosive device was left outside the main gate of the Nowshera district court. As a result of the blast, a policewoman was killed as well as an unidentified civilian. Nine more were injured, including four police officers.

A bomb squad was deployed to the area and launched a search operation. Preliminary reports indicate that the blast was caused by approximately 1 kilogram of explosive material.

The Senate Chairman Farooq Naek strongly condemned the terror attack and labeled it as a cowardly act. Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, leader of the Senate, and Senator Wasim Sajjad also condemned the blast.

The injured individuals were transported to a nearby local hospital where some of them were reported in serious condition. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack which was perpetrated remotely.

Nowshera, which is located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Peshawar, witnessed a powerful bomb blast that killed ten people and injured 29 others on March 3.

The blast took place at a mosque located in the Akbarpura area just after Friday prayers. Approximately 200 people were in the building in Akhond Panjo Baba shrine when the explosion occurred.
