But if he gets away with this again on the grounds of " immunity " it will be a little

bizzare that a sitting US President was put through the embarassment of an impeachement process

for this kind of thing and yet this DSK is set free to do it again

In Monica L's case she was more than a willing participant. Attempted rape is a real crime. ;)

i agree with you Ulysses :) so even more reason DSK should go to trial.

Anyway now i predict the "diplomatic immunity " will not stand based on an interesting explanation by this guy

Kurt Taylor Gaubatz how the immunity which IMF has ( because DSK not have it personally )

" only covers actions taken in the course of the employee's official duties "

Anyway we will indeed soon find out because he will be appearing before a judge in NY

in the next few hours

He does not have diplomatic immunity. It only applies in regard to acts performed in an official capacity. Hardly think this qualifies. Also remember that diplomatic immunity can be waived and the IMF would certainly do so in this instance.

The French press has reams of stuff on this guys peccadilloes. However they tend not to publish anything relating to politicians love life. The French media had known that Mitterand had an illegitimate daughter from the year dot,the result of an affair, the French public did not, until she turned up at the funeral. :rolleyes:

wow - if true he must have had a career deathwish - still it's a sign of a great democracy that everyone is treated equally regardless of rank or status - like Thailand really hehe

Nepotism and the boys club favourtism is quite the universal acceptance throughout these democratic bodies. Ain't it grand....??B)

Note: those comments, although very satirical of course, won't do him any good in this case but only if the NY Police know and learnt about this program...

You know this reminds me a bit of that fat swine Ted Kennedy trying it on with a waitress and abusing her. This was back in the 1990s when he was drunk and well and truly washed up...

FACTBOX-Typical steps in New York criminal cases

6:23pm EDT - May 15 (Reuters) -

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn was expected to be arraigned on Sunday on charges he sexually assaulted a New York hotel maid. Here are the typical steps in the New York state criminal justice system.

ARRAIGNMENT

An arraignment is a defendant's first appearance in court and includes a formal reading of the charges. Typically this happens within 24 hours of arrest. The defendant enters a plea of guilty or not guilty.

The charges against Strauss-Kahn include a criminal sexual act, unlawful imprisonment and attempted rape. His attorney has said he will plead not guilty.

Strauss-Kahn lawyer famed for Michael Jackson, rapper

3:58pm EDT By Andrew Longstreth

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Few criminal lawyers know their way around the New York legal system better than Benjamin Brafman, famed for helping celebrities in serious trouble and chosen by Dominique Strauss-Kahn to defend him on charges he attempted to rape a New York hotel maid.

Brafman is known for either winning cases at trial or negotiating deals.

He represented pop king Michael Jackson in a child molestation case in 2004 before stepping aside, and New York Giants football star Plaxico Burress for carrying a gun into a nightclub that went off when it slipped down his pants. And he won a not guilty verdict for rapper "P.Diddy" Sean Combs, on illegal weapons and bribery charges in a nightclub brawl and shooting that was witnessed by over 100 people.

Apparently he's been found guilty before he even goes on trial.

Media.....the media are always on top of a sensational story when it comes to an important name/figure in the world. Nobody knows yet anything about the 32 year old maid; would be interesting to see her photos; so far the info is based upon police reports, telling about HER story.

Every story has 2 sides; so far the media convicted him already but his problem his his past with women...

Diplomatic Immunity is not extended to International Organizations. The IMF is an international organization and immunity would not be extended to employees.

The NY cops would appear to agree. However according to the UN the following international organizations are granted diplomatic immunity along with their officials traveling to meetings: (Diplomatic immunity can be waived however and the IMF could well decide that mushroom slapping is outside the scope of the president's official duties.)

(a) The International Labour Organisation;

(

B) The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations;

© The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization;

(d) The International Civil Aviation Organization;

(e) The International Monetary Fund;

(f) The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development;

(g) The World Health Organization;

(h) The Universal Postal Union;

(i) The International Telecommunication Union; and

(j) Any other agency in relationship with the United Nations in accordance with Articles 57 and 63 of the Charter.

Only Fantuzi has drawn attention to the most important aspect of all this: the sheer animal magnetism involved in rampant sexual desire.

Yes, it's possible he was set up (cos there may be many financial types around who don't want to see Greece helped out any more....tomorrow was D-Day in the IMF/Eurozone discussion of "what to do with Greece"?), but really, what is this "socialist" (what a laugh) doing in a $3000 a night suite, and why does he fly first class, automatically? Could have been set up also by French politicos, seeing him way ahead in the opinion polls.

But his past record with womanizing, and his cosy relationship with the world's bankers, are sufficient to guarantee that this arrogant sod will not be around the Corridors of Power any more.

But in the end, as Fantuzi says, it's just sex, sexual desire at a level most of us just don't experience cos we don't possess within ourselves the aphrodisiac of Power.

because he is the CEO of the International Monetary Fund which runs a multi-billion dollar "business". other CEOs of much smaller but non-governmental institutions are flying with company jets.

I agree hard to believe -BUT The police would not arrest anyone and in particular the Head of the IMF on the back of an accusation from a chambermaid unless they seriously considered there was some truth in the allegation /

Oh, I don't doubt if it was a setup that it would have been a very good one. That doesn't do anything to convince me though that this isn't just a bit too convenient. Could be true, or could simply be a way of removing the head of the IMF that was in the process of instituting reforms. There is big money and powerful people who I'm quite certain would have been affected by such reforms.

Of course, a proper police investigation and a good defense team would normally be able to make a credible effort at proving innocence if this was the case. When you get to people of this level though, nothing is normal. I would not at all be surprised to see this case wrapped up in record time with no defense presented and a plea bargain accepted. He may or may not actually be guilty, but if he is innocent, then this would just be a gentle reminder of what could happen to him if he doesn't toe the line.

Yes yes I know, it was a rhetorical question, meant to query why we automatically assume that just cos someone's a big shot CEO, he has to be separated from the great unwashed. (At taxpayers' expense, perhaps, in this case) And especially if he claims to be a "socialist"....(more like Monty Python's "bocialist")

it is easy to be a "socialist" if the wife (Anne Sinclair) inherited a huge big fortune (conservative estimates say 300-400 million dollars).

I suppose they have on video from the security cameras some hard evidence like him running down the hall nude chasing the maid who obviously is trying to get away from him.

I suppose they have on video from the security cameras some hard evidence like him running down the hall nude chasing the maid who obviously is trying to get away from him.

It was the hall (foyer) within the suite not the hall to the rooms and suites.

Mr. Browne said that the suite, which cost $3,000 a night, had a foyer, a conference room, a living room and a bedroom, and that Mr. Strauss-Kahn had checked in on Friday.

Don't know how hard it was, but according to this article the police recovered "DNA evidence" from the suite.

Not anymore. NY State amended its sexual assault laws. The crime of Aggravated Sexual Abuse IV that broadened conditions under which aggravated sexual abuse can be charged. It is now an E level felony.

Sexual Assault includes a wide range of victimizations, distinct from rape or attempted rape. These crimes include completed or attempted attacks generally involving unwanted sexual contact between the victim and offender. Sexual assaults may or may not involve force and include such things as grabbing or fondling. Sexual assault also includes verbal threats. The decision to arrest was most likely because the accused was a flight risk.

There are a few inaccuracies in the news reports. The accused was arrested on board flight AirFrance 23, a flight scheduled to depart at 16:40 hrs. Ok.

Many of the news reports use this (example from NBC) The NYPD discovered that he was at the airport and contacted Port Authority officials, who plucked Strauss-Kahn from first class on the Air France flight that was scheduled to depart at 4:40 p.m. ET and was just about to leave the gate.

The catch is that there is no 1st class on that flight. it's a 330-200 and AF only has economy, Premium Economy and Business class on that plane. Some may say, what's the diff? Well, there's alot. The use of the term "first class' can create bias against the accused, i.e. oh it's a rich prick etc.

There are far too many versions of the story circulating. For example;

MSNBC provides this version of events; According to an account the woman provided to police, Strauss-Kahn emerged from the bathroom naked, chased her down a hallway and pulled her into a bedroom, where he began to sexually assault her. She said she fought him off, then he dragged her into the bathroom, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him and tried to remove her underwear. The woman was able to break free again and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police. When New York City police detectives arrived moments later, Strauss-Kahn had already left the hotel, leaving behind his cellphone, Browne said. "It looked like he got out of there in a hurry," Browne said

So what happened, people just stood around while the woman recounted the alleged foced oral sex encounter? How long did it take them to call the police? As I first mentioned, the police are basically right outside the hotel, and they did arrive quickly.

The NY Post which broke the story now reports; that he "allegedly sodomized the hotel maid yesterday"

I think it's going to be a while before the truth comes out. Maybe he is apervert and assaulted her. Or maybe it was a consensual event that went awry, or maybe it was an attempted shakedown. The man's past misbehaviour is nonadmissible in court unless it relates to a previous criminal conviction and even then the admission of such evidence must be approved by the presiding judge.

And if I am not mistaken, the IMF may get stuck with the legal fees in this case since he was an employee and on company business.

"They" did the same thing to the wikileaks guy.... dont play ball with "them" and they will racket up some charge..
