The Snark
With the present E-Coli outbreak in Germany setting a sterling example of the difficulties of identifying a pathogen and tracing it back to it's source, unless a smoking gun toxin is found in more than one victim, the odds are almost astronomical against the cause ever being found. Science is not absolute the vast majority of the time. The very best that can be determined at this late a date is a probable which would not stand up in any court or serve to point culpability at any person. IE, lacking the smoking gun miraculously appearing, consider the case closed. Edited June 12, 2011 by The Snark
