Our outside a/c unit was stolen a few nights ago from our office in Vichit. They cut the copper pipes and electrical cord and took the whole unit. It was a big expensive Daikin unit and it is, I know now, impossible to have only the outside unit replaced in Thailand. I checked with several companies in Phuket and even with Daikin headoffice in Bangkok, nope, you have to buy a whole new unit including the inside unit.......amazing......So, another 48,000 THB to spend in the off-season and the insurance (SME AXA) will only cover 10,000. They call it electrical equipment in the policy and this includes your aircon.

I'm pretty sure that this theft was committed by an air-con installation company and maybe even the company that installed it and knew the location and brand of it. Someone, maybe, lost his outside unit (or the compressor broke) and he went to the a/c company and ordered one....the rest you know....

Anyway, make sure that the exposed part of your office or home a/c is bolted down (welded) or, better, installed elevated 4-5 meters off the ground if possible. Also take a good look at your insurance and understand how it protects you or, actually, doesn't protect you......

Surprised to hear that you can't buy just the compressor. We have replaced quite a few of our older compressor with new Mitsubishi units. Any reputable A/C installer should be able to supply.

Compressor yes, but did you replace the whole housing with the fan etc. ?

Believe he is referring to the item in the first picture below not the 2nd which is just the compressor. Usually these are bolted down to the concrete I thought, though wouldn't take long with a wrench to disconnect it.

Yes, replaced the entire outside unit, without having to buy an indoor unit. As per the first photo above.

sorry to hear

but try Chiang Mai Air 0816915138 to get a Mitsubishi replacement compressor. Not much difference unless it was an inverter unit

I was, unfortunately, not in the office when a guy from Chiang Mai Air came to have a look yesterday. He told our staff that Mitsubishi doesn't sell separate outside units and that the outside "Mitsubishi" units for sale, are just copies that will only last for 2-3 years.......!? , maybe he was only, like the rest of the bunch, interested in replacing the entire air-con; inside and outside....who knows.....difficult to get an accurate and professional answer here.

Well, I will not keep their business card for the future... Also, I've asked my Thai staff to have a shower since they, obviously, smell of easy farang... :clap2:
