This place is like a ghost town, I don't understand it. the beaches are dead the sun is shining I went to Surin beach its stunning but no one there. It seems such a waste.

I have posted before about the lack of people , I am afraid its down to the financial climate , people do not have as much disposable income and the Financial climate has not helped .also the prices have gone up.

My best guess is it's the economy. I heard similar reports of a big drop in tourists in Chiang Mai right now. I know a couple of small businesses that were doing fine 4 months ago and are now struggling. I have a smart, English speaking Thai friend who is searching for work and there just aren't any paying jobs around.

I have to agree that most of the tourist activity on Phuket Island has ground to halt last month. Never ever seen things so quiet these last 6 weeks. Yes May & June are usually quiet, but this 2011 year is quite extreme.

I usually try to be up-beat about Phuket...but I agree with above posts. Never seen it this slow (I've been resident in Phuket since October 2008).

A number of the regular, year-round places at Kata and Karon I frequent have closed up or are hibernating.

On the other hand, for those of us without business interests here, it's as if we own the island...

This seems to be an annual thread... But yes, the world economy still sucks. I also noticed that airline tickets have gone up considerably in the last month or so. Now I am wondering when TAT will come out with their usual rosy arrival numbers...
