The U.k.

Featured Replies

I have heard all the Brits bash their homeland and some of it's people here on TV. As a matter of fact I have never heard an ill word spoken of the U.K. until I found TV. So, what I am wondering is what is good about the U.K. My wife spent time in London as a student and travel all over the U.K. It's one of her fave places outside of her home Bangkok. She say it's so beautiful there and the people are great. I myself and have seen many pictures and heard many travel stories concerning the U.K. and have always wanted to go, maybe even live there. So, why do so many of you Brits bash it? What is good about the U.K.?

Read Ian Rankin's Fleshmarket Close for an accurate description of life as an asylum seeker in the UK.

It's also a first class detective story.

I am of course assuming you are really interested in finding out the truth?

The thing is SBK, you get too used to things around you and then don't have a good word to say about where you live anymore. In fairness the UK is still a fabulous place. The scenery like in your piccies is just 2 minutes drive from my house but i don't appreciate it anymore. I was driving to a friends house at weekend with Mrs Bojangles (who has only been here 2 weeks) and we drove through scenery like that for half an hour until we got to my mates house. The Mrs kept going on about how beautiful it was and i was just thinking, blah, blah, blah. :D Maybe i need to spend a year in a high rise apartment, in the centre of a city, before i can start to appreciate it again :o

Such as?

Albanians and Gypsies for starters!!! (amount of problems they cause) :D

I meant what extra rights do they have that we don't as British passport holders?

Back on topic....

The UK is a great country is has to be said, after staying in Thailand for such a long time without visiting I do look forward to go back there again for a holiday next year, and I wouldn't mind an extended summer holiday there to be honest.

I find London a beautiful city with a lot more to offer than Bangkok, and though Thailand has some great islands I have to admit that a trip down to North Devon or Cornwall to the small villages and great coastline would offer just as much to me.

Since I've had a crappy day in BKK I should add some more, like better food, nightlife, shopping, parks, attractions etc.

But, sbk, the pictures you've posted have evidently been taken on the 3 days a year when it doesn't rain. I drove home from work yesterday evening in the lashing rain, exacerbated by the spray from the other vehicles, not being able to do more than 50 MPH.

On the positive side:-

1. A largely uncorrupt executive/bureaucracy;

2. A largely unarmed police force;

3. Free medical treatment.

Scouse.

Fish and Chips

Boddington's (that was the only down side about the piss up last week......it was a Lees pub :o ) had to drink Guiness all night :D

Your grandad never sent you the postcard entitled "Scottish mist" or the pc of Birmingham's picturesque Bullring or a Barnsley slagheap in winter, lass. These would be equally representative images of Great Britain, which have their own particular pinteresque attraction, but are one reason I would rather stay in Thailand for the time being. :o

Having said that, I do love the UK and it has some Absolutely Fabulous things going for it, beyond the funniest comedy shows in the world, second to none. Yep, I miss the TV (now and again); real ale in a real pub on a summer's evening; sunsets at 10 pm; autumn wind tearing down the leaves; fresh strawbs and rasbs off the plant; Coxes and Bramley's apples; first snowfall of the year (rarer and rarer event) and an open woodfire on a cold night. Could go on and on, but I might get all misty eyed and nostalgic as I sit here with a beer in hand on a 28 C evening, just about to pack off to bed. :D

So it's good night from me, and it's good night from him. (Goodbye and RIP RB)

It does have a lot of things going for it and the scenery is superb, as is the vibrant nightlife in every town, but the attitude of some of it's citizens, the oft adverse climate (no good for my system being asthmatic) and the whole 9 to 5 thing doesn't do it for me anymore. Thailand has an easier way of life and is relatively cheap and the sun shines most of the year in CM, which is great for me. A lot of people from the UK put it down like they'd probably put any place down as they are whinging f***s! Having enough money to visit for a couple of weeks a year would be perfect for me, but unfortunately I haven't so I'll stay here until I have :o

They talk funny!!!

Good grammar. Where are you from?

:o:D

...yet another topic to bring out the racist scum.

:o Who is?
