I like living back in the Uk after several years in LOS. Hubby likes it too. Moderate climate all year (well it is in London) summer is particually pleasant with the sun out until after 10pm, even winters are nice, fire on, snuggled up on the sofa with a good book. I suppose it depends on the type of person you are but there are negatives to every country, it just depends on how you deal with them. There are a large number of asylum seekers in Europe in general & the UK is fairly lax in controlling abuses of the system (social security) but I supose thats the down side of coming from a 1st world country with a policy in helping others less fortunate (there will always be piss takers) Generally I wouldn't want to move yet but we have been talking about either returning to LOS in a few years for part of the year with the rest spent somewhere on mainland europe or else staying full time in the UK. We can't decide yet but it's nice to have the choice :o

pubs full of friendly old slappers who will shag you for a couple of woodbines and 'arf a cider.

The brits are all shining wits too :o

Nicest thing is people leave you alone more than anywhere else.

As a matter of fact I have never heard an ill word spoken of the U.K. until I found TV.

You need to get out more.

I am a poor urbanite from the middle of America. All I have ever tried to do is "get out". Once I pay my Karmic debt I shall leave this place.

C,mon guys, there has to be something you like about the UK.

Just looking at some photos the scenery can be fabulous.

That is what I want to see. Places like this I have viewed only through books and TV. What a wonderful place!

But, sbk, the pictures you've posted have evidently been taken on the 3 days a year when it doesn't rain. I drove home from work yesterday evening in the lashing rain, exacerbated by the spray from the other vehicles, not being able to do more than 50 MPH.

On the positive side:-

1. A largely uncorrupt executive/bureaucracy;

2. A largely unarmed police force;

3. Free medical treatment.

Scouse.

I know some people are bothered by rain, but not me, I love it! I love cold gray(or warm and gray) rainy days, good for tea and hot chocolate, books and blankets, watching movies with the fam or just watching the rain. Rain has never bothered me.

Fish and Chips

Boddington's (that was the only down side about the piss up last week......it was a Lees pub  :o ) had to drink Guiness all night  :D

I want to eat real fish&chips! You can't get real fish&chips here. And deep fried mars bars, I really want to try that! :D

What is good about the U.K.?

Skegness!

One of the world's top vacation spots is 'Skeggie'! :o

Where's that?

The opposite side of the country from Blackpool, the second-most popular vacation spot! :D

Echo that :o

I wouldn't mind someday visiting the land that brought us Shakespeare, Benny Hill, and Doctor Who!

Of course, I'd better get there before it is eventually renamed "New Pakistan"... :o

The worrying thing is, there might be an element of truth in that :D

It amazes me why anyone would want to live in England. It isn't all rolling hills and people walking around in bowler hats carrying umbrellas talking in 'Ye Olde Englishy" lingo you know.

Nah! I'd sooner go and live in the good ol' US of A. Live in Hollywood, become a millionaire overnight and then the next morning mosey on down to the diner for some possum grits, sowbelly and fatback jerky for breakfast while conversing with the local native indians. Then a brisk walk down the road to see the Grand Canyon all the while taking care to avoid walking near any piles of brown boxes or trash cans in case I witness a car chase (brown boxes and trash cans always gets hit don't they).

Then in the afternoon hail a NY cab and tour the 'Big Apple' all the while steering clear of any banks with a robbery in progress in case somebody tries to make my day. Then maybe in the evening sit a spell on the front porch of a Mississippi Delta bluesman's home just playin' da blues, before heading back to my Bel Aire mansion for a late night orgy and a Vegemite sarnie washed down with a nice cuppa cha.

Can I get Vegemite in the US or am I just dreamin' ?

:o

Of course you can....

but why would you want to? :o

We spend nearly 11 months every year now in the UK.

The prime reason is our son's education.

However the following photographs from the market town where we live, will give members an indication of some of the other reasons (the town has changed very little in over a hundred years; the castle is where I take the dog for a walk - at least 4 times a day!):

Believe it or not, all the books in the library are in English.

vegemite in US - ur dreaming Gazza. Besides vegemite is a bit bland compared to MARMITE. In England we give kids vegemite to get 'em ready for marmite when they get bigger.

I used to live in Dartmouth. Quite like TM's home town. It is an old naval town, with old, crooked buildings, flowers outside the windows of all the houses, fich and chip shops, seagulls, boats, castle walls, canon ..... it even has a band stand in the park.

In fact, it was just like living in Trumpton !!!
